I don't know if this is old news or if any of you have seen this before, but I thought it was interesting so hopefully it can help you too.

There's an EXTREMELY nice article (actually, two articles) on Roddick's serve at tennisplayer.net, too.

I have to ssay that article is ridiculous. Especially the pictures where they draw the 'angle' lines like they are trying to prove something. You can take a picture from a certain angle and it looks like Roddick is spreading his legs 80 degrees when in real life it is something like 120. You get my drift anyway. And 1 mph per degree? Ok.

i saw him practice in l.a. a few years ago and somebody was stretching his serving arm behind his back and it looked like he had a rubber arm / double jointed

i find the whole angle thing hard to believe, they dont take into consideration how much he bends his knees to jump into the ball as well as the racquet used, tension, and other factors (his strength is part of it i am sure). they also forgot his height (u wont see olivier rocus pulling a 152 mph serve). this theory may work if it didnt matter to tennis players if they got the ball in or not. all in all, its true, but they forget to mention many factors involved.

efice, do you have 20 bucks? Under half the cost of a normal lesson? Try a month of tennisplayer.net with that money.

You can save the articles you like with the "Save Webpage As" thing. Well, at least I have that in Internet Explorer. You won't be able to save the movies, which are extremely high quality, but you still have the general information. Lots of stuff besides excellent Roddick articles.

What good does a 155 mph serve do you if you can't hit a volley

Hope it helps. I just signed up for the one month subscription myself, it's great. I'm planning to check the future monthly updates and if I see something interesting, I'll get another monthly subscription.

Make sure you cancel at the end of the month though, I think (or it's implied) that you'll get another $20 charge for another month if you don't do anything about it.

And Stuck, he CAN hit a volley. He just needs to work on the approaches. He actually had a good few net points at Wimbledon. Of all the semifinalists (including Federer, who people call an all-courter), he played the most points at net statistically this year at Wimby.

I can get 280 degrees on my racquet take back, I hit a pretty hard serve, but it wasn't worth it.

Yeah cuz we all know Roddick was 0 for like 200 at the net during Wimbledon.

actually phil, i talked to John Yandell and he said that you can download movies and play them on your hard drive only if you have quicktime pro.

As big as Andy's serve is, I find it more ammazing that Hewitt and Federer have no problems with returning it when it matters most.

Roddick's serve is all about butt-action. Just stick out your sexy butt when you serve and you have Roddick's serve motion. If you want Roddick's preparation stance, just stand in normal ready stance with slightly-more bent knees, and wiggle your sexy butt violently.
