Anyone here buy the new iPhone 4S yet? I was just about to buy one tomorrow when I came across this video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdwz1w47HqE

Why would Apple come out with a new phone and advertise its amazing speed when it takes twice as long to the home screen and bring up the multi-task bar?

I'm pretty angry! Grrrrr...

Hmm, not sure what's going on with that guy's 4S but my 4S doesn't act that "slow."

Also, in real world applications, you won't notice the micro-second lag if there is any at all. Hardly anything to be angry about.

Really? Well I'm not "angry" ... but, the video shows it's HALF as fast. That's a significant lag.

Anyway do you have the 64GB 4S or the 32GB? Wondering if this is just the case with the 64GB which is used in the vid.

Can't wait to upgrade from my old crappy phone though! I bought a Macbook Pro last winter and now it's time to complete the set.

I have the 16GB version and it's not HALF as fast. If it were half as fast then it wouldn't be able to do 1080p video, Airplay Mirroring, or Siri. The guy is complaining about simple things like switching to the home screen and not even looking at the bigger picture.

If you're coming from a crappy old phone then the changes will be drastic for you in any case. You're not switching from a iPhone 4 to a 4S so it's nothing for you to worry about.

"what do you think about this Siri?"

"I am wholeheartedly ashamed of myself."

awesome.

Strange. I wonder if:
1) the issue is repeatable with other people's Iphone 4S?
2) this is a software issue, specifically related to the fact that the 4S has a dual core processor?
3) this is an issue with the larger flash drive only?

Would be interested if someone finds out the reason. Would also be interested in knowing whether iOS5 has true multitasking like Android, or still crippled multitasking like iOS4.

as far as download/upload speeds -- all of the iphones - 4S and regular 4 -- are very slow compared to 4G phones.

^ Well sure, but real 4G coverage is very sparse and limited so it hardly matters right now. Also... the 4S does not have 4G.

The next iPhone iteration coming out next year will undoubtedly have 4G and by then, hopefully 4G coverage is more widespread.

^^4G isn't really sparse unless you're out in the country. I guess it depends on your network, but with Sprint, it's in every major city now.
Edit... I see ur in London so I can't speak on it, but here, it's all over, as long as ur in a city.

OP,

What is wrong with you? Apple released the next version, your job is to go out and buy it. End of story.

I'm not sure how it could be slower. Its dual core. IGN found the 4s to be 60% faster. It loads much faster in the side-by-side in their video, too.

why even bother making the statement it's all over? it's really just in big cities. Limitation on 4g is so bad that they had to redefine what 4g speed meant. From 100mbit/sec to ~6mbit/sec (actual definition now is just as long as it's faster than 3g, pathetic).

I think Sprint is in the lead with consistent speeds with if you're in their wi-max network, but everyone else the speeds greatly vary depending on usage from that city.

It doesn't matter if something is dual core if the hardware is bloated with junk software.

I'm not saying that Apple makes garbage, but I know the carriers like to add their own apps / software mods to phones. Maybe some phones are slower depending on the carrier.

As for the single core vs dual core. Speed often time is dependent of the software. Take for instance so app games. A phone might be perfectly able to run a program given its hardware specs, but the program might be incredibly laggy because of bad coding.

Well generally people that care about cutting edge smartphone technology aren't going to be in the boondocks......

4G coverage is still spotty but if you're in the coverage area, it's a very nice perk. it's like being connected to a good wifi connection as far as download/upload speeds. and if i'm slumming it in 3G, i get to see how iphone users deal with slow data speeds.
