I tried to convert my FAT32 C drive to NTFS, but it didn't work.

Here's what I did:

Typed "cmd" in Run
Typed "convert c: /fs:ntfs"
Agreed to dismount
Agreed to convert at the next restart
Restarted my computer

Then I checked the properties of drive C, and it was still FAT32...

Did I do something wrong?

How large is the volume? IDE drive?

Boot with a boot cd or disk to DOS and do a chkdsk c: /f /v

Sorry, you kinda lost me here... But I know it's a big volume, it's my main drive. One more thing: now my computer goes into the NTFS conversion "routine" whenever I start/restart my computer: first there's a disk check, then it says "Converting c: to NTFS" for about 5 seconds, and then Windows opens and C is still in FAT32 when I check its properties.

What you did is supposed to work.

Ive never done it personally as Ive always just loaded Windows on NTFS to begin with.

Boot to DOS and run the command I posted.

Google boot CD and burn a boot disk.

Or, boot with any 2000 or XP setup CD, choose recovery console and run the command.

You need to fix errors on the drive from a non windows environment.

Ok I'll try that.

Reboot yer computer.

Press f5 or f8 when windows begins loading.

Get to a DOS prompt. Run the command.

Run disk scan from Windows just in case. If you have any kind of error it won't do it...

I spend some time on this forum(WINDOWS 7) now and then, it's great for just browsing through and picking up some odd tricks and some that are common.

One thing I noticed is that you need enough space on the disk, how much I don't know.

Here's a link, hope it works out.

BTW I have Windows XP, and the F5/F8 thing didn't work (didn't send me to DOS). I could try the boot disk thing though.

repeatedly tap F8 at restart. This should bring up a "windows boot option" menu. You want to select XXXX with command prompt.
