Last night I was craving for some good laughing movies. I couldn't think of that much. Some people say Austin power series is funny but I didn't think it was that funny.
My list goes:
1 There is something about Mary.
2 Election
3 Role model
4 Bad teacher
5 bridesmaid
What is your top 5 or 10 best comedy movies?

It's between A Shot in the Dark, or The Pink Panther Strikes Again. Although it's not in the same league as those films, I found Ghost Town very funny, even though it was not generally well received.

To me, a classic comedy is one where you can still quote lines from the movie years later and it will still make you laugh. Holy Grail and Airplane definitely qualify. Just thinking about some of the lines from Holy Grail is making me chuckle as I type this.

Caddyshack, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and Office Space also qualify for me.

Everything by Mel Brooks is pure genius. I still get a kick out of hearing the Blazing Saddles theme play at Disneyland, and I even have Cleavon Little singing as my ring tone. The Producers is probably my second favorite (Brooks film, that is), with Men in Tights a distant third - mostly because it's so quotable. I wonder if it's the inclusion of Gene Wilder that makes a difference. Have you seen The Frisco Kid? Also a classic film, and costarring Han to boot!

One of my old 1SGs once asked me what my favorite comedy is, and when I told him Blazing Saddles, he replied "Well that figures." I'm not sure what he meant...

+1. I didn't get most of the humor when it first came out and I was a young child. Every time thereafter I would understand a little more of the humor until one day I realized this movie was absolutely brilliant.

Actually, I think The Producers is the top Mel Brooks production for me because it had a dark serious element to contrast with the hilarity.

I'm guessing your 1SG is referring to the sheer silliness of Mel Brooks humor. Let's face it, it's not the most introspective comedy (see Woody Allen).

I watch a lot of Russian, French, Danish, Swedish, and Japanese films, but there are very few great comedic films that I can think of from these countries. America and England seem to make the best comedies, in my opinion. Of English speaking countries, I would have thought there would be more great comedies from Ireland.

Can anyone suggest any great comedies from Europe or Asia? There must be some films worth mentioning in this thread.

Many of my favourite comedies have already been mentioned, so I looked at my DVD collection to find some films that I don't think have been mentioned. "Pulp Fiction," "Overnight" (an accidental comedy), "Boogie Nights," and "A Fish Called Wanda" were all pretty funny to me.

"The Kingdom" (Lars Von Trier}, "Trainspotting," "Wag the Dog," and "Diner" were pretty funny, though not classified as comedies. "The Commitments" and "Dazed and Confused" are pretty good comedies that I don't think have been mentioned. Most of the recent good comedies seem to have been mentioned.
