Fiesta Texas is good, Six Flags over Texas is a bit better though... but 5 hours away, so it all depends on if ur only going to be in San Antonio or not. But it's still worth going to if you can't get to SFOT. The big thing at SFOT right now is they took an already awesome coaster, The Texas Giant, which is wooden, and literally turned it into a steel coaster, which is now called "The New Texas Giant", it's badass, have a look:

Superman ride there is the only original track, the rest of the coasters are just renamed coasters of typical designs that you would find at most theme parks. That being said, it's an OK park. Def ride superman though. As stated above, if you can go to six flags over texas, it is a much better park in my opinion. I enjoy the coasters there much more.

Edit: Rattler is also unique to that park, but is well known for a rough ride(some parts of it redesigned years back because riders were getting whiplash). Still a thrilling wood coaster though.

Agreed!!!!

I want to go there, Kings Island, and Six Flags Magic Mountain more than any other parks, so so bad. Honorable mentions to Six Flags New England, Hershey Park, and Kennywood... sheesh, I have alot of places to go!

yeah, big bad wolf was the scariest of them all, not in the sense that it was too fast or the g's were too much, but you never really knew when it was going to break down on you. lol

We do not have too many decent coasters in Germany.
My favs: Busch Gardens Tampa, don't know it's name, it has a 90 degree freefall. Cheetah?
The Incredible Hulk, Universal Studios Orlando

I love this virtual coaster they have at Universal Orlando, some years ago it featured a "Back To The Future" story, now it is a Simpsons-ride. Very entertaining.

Mike, been to Busch Gardens plenty of times. Apollo's Chariot is definitely a good ride (I'm more of an Escape From Pompeii guy lol, but Big Bad Wolf and Alpengeist are good too), but without a doubt the best/scariest roller coaster I've been on is the Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion.

Hershey Park is alright. I think if you'd be going out that way you'd be better off going to Dorney Park. Dorney has better coasters and more of them I think. A lot of Hershey's aren't too exciting and are way too short.

Went to Six Flags for my high school physics trip. That was pretty sweet. Nitro is probably my favorite out of all the other coasters I've been on.

Oh, and this coaster is pretty insane. Hope you guys haven't seen it before.

Dont waste your time on Hershey Park if you want coasters. nothing they got is woth it IMO.

If you like Coasters you have to go to Cedar point. Millenium force is the best stell coaster Ive ever been on, and the factt hat it has won numerous Golden Ticket awards backs up my claim. 300 foot hill overlookiing lake erie and the 2nd longest roller coaster in North America equals awesomeness. Magnum XL is a good coaster also. Top Thrill goes 400 ft in the air and launches at 120 MPH but the ride is short and I dont consider it a coaster.

If you like Wood like me you have to hit up King's Island and ride The Beast. I havent yet but I need to it make there. They closed down son of beast which was a wooden coaster with a loop. Not sure if they plan on reopening it.

The BG WIllaimsburg guys, do you remember Drachen Fire? It was only there a couple years but it was pretty sweet, albeit super rough.

I havent been to Kings Dominion in a long time, but always liked Anaconda, and the Avalanche for some reason.

The Beast is really a beast. Just look at the thing and how much track is there.

Yeah, went to Hershey Park a couple of times in high school, and Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion are both better and a lot less of a drive obviously (in state vs driving 3+ hrs to PA).

@Hollywood, I knooooooow, that's the reason I want to go to K.I, i've heard so much about the Beast and im dying to ride it. The POV vids of it are so sweet. I also want to ride The Voyage, it's one of the newer big wooden coasters and is supposed to be one of the smoothest and have a ton of airtime. It's at another park but check it out.

I live and hour from Hershey, and actually used to work up that way. I would still drive to Kings. Only went to Williamsburg once becuase it was further for us to drive and made the day really long. KD we could drive spend the day and get back, if we went to BG we had to stay the night.

Yep the beast is pretty boss, it'll just about break your neck. We have a wooden coaster here in Louisville too called Thunder Run that for a time at least was the fastest wooden coaster in the world. Sweet thing about Kings Island is that it is literally directly across I-71 from where they play the Cincinnati Masters. You can see the park from the stands. You can make it a sweet combo trip when they're playing the tourney, and do both!

Also, Son of Beast is completely torn down. It was killing people. I did get to ride it before they tore it down, it was physically pretty brutal.

I rode "The Banshee" (worlds longest inverted roller coaster) at Kings Island a few weeks ago, it was pretty cool. Hadn't been to K.I in 15-20 years. Do remember standing in line to ride "Son of Beast"... everyone in line chanting "Son of Beast! Son of Beast!", except it didn't sound like Son of Beast. :-) It did seem to jerk you around a little bit. I thought it was a blast. And of course had to ride The Beast, while now one of the older coasters, it's still my favorite. The Diamondback at K.I was also really good. The older Vortex almost tore my spine out. No line at all to ride it... maybe 4 minutes.

Kentucky Kingdom, formly Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom has a new coaster. Think it's called Lightening Run. Good air throughout, but only last about 45 seconds. Chang, a cool coaster, was removed by Six Flags when they closed the park and declared bankruptcy. The Twisted Sisters, pretty good, not yet operational after the park being closed for around 4 years.

I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain with a friend a couple of weeks back and I really enjoyed it. I went on X2, Tatsu, Goliath, Superman, and a few others. I definitely really liked Tatsu the most. You literally feel like you're flying. Goliath and X2 were cool but Goliath is next to Superman which is the loudest, most deafening roller coaster I've heard. Not a fun wait in line. X2 was great too but it was literally bumpy as hell and you twist and turn all over the place. After I came back home, I thought I had a brain aneurysm and felt like I had to vomit for two days. So nauseous, thank god I'm still alive.

Interesting looking coaster.

The X2 is special experience really. That first vertical drop when they turn you face down is something else.
Tatsu is amazing flying coaster with the most intense inversion I experienced - the pretzel loop in the middle.
Goliath is typical hypercoaster with close to 300ft first drop and crazy helix at the end. Smooth as butter.

There are other great coasters in the park that would probably be top in some other smaller park - new Full Throttle and Green Lantern, than Scream, Batman, Riddlers Revenge, Apocalypse and Viper, but these three really stand out to me.

Yes never liked Supermen for some reason. And yes Tastu is like flying :) Surprised to hear about your experience with X2. I was in awe after it. Yes you twist and turn a lot (in 4D :)) but it felt great. I heard Goliath can be unpleasant to some people because of high G force in the helix at the end (I was fine), but not X2.

Right now our biggest coaster is the Intimidator which is racing themed (Charlotte is a big NASCAR city)

232 feet and the tallest, longest and fastest coaster in the southeast. The layout for the new coaster has been leaked and it's going to be around 325 feet if that gives you an idea :)

Anyone do the "fast pass" tickets? Let's you cut in front of the poor people. Was $60 (plus price of admission ticket) at Kings Island. Probably worth it as waiting for the big coasters: about 1 hour for Banshee, 45 minutes for the Beast and Diamondback. Had a big group with me, probably do it next time as waiting in line kinda stinks... literally.

I do them usually. Since I don't leave close to the parks and can't go repeatedly at will, or pick probable low attendance days, all the time. So when I go don't want to waste time.
Depends though. If you go on say Tuesday in winter and arrive early maybe not needed.

Since realizing how much I like rollar coasters, only theme park i've been to is Universal Orlando (a lot). Went to Cedar Point as a kid, but was terrified of coasters. Have ridden the beast at Kings Island twice when I was littler .

Since realizing how much I like rollar coasters, only theme park i've been to is Universal Orlando (a lot). Went to Cedar Point as a kid, but was terrified of coasters. Have ridden the beast at Kings Island twice when I was littler .

My favorite so far is the Hulk at Universal, followed closely by the Mummy ride.

Yeah you need to come up to GA at least and go to Six Flags.

You wanna see huge? This is based on the leaked layout/plans of the coaster we're getting next year that I mentioned earlier would be 325ish feet:

The coaster my park.... (carowinds www.carowinds.com ) is building for 2015 is going to be world record breaking. The rumor is that it will be the tallest and fastest coaster in the world that has a chain lift/isn't launched. I CANNOT wait lol.

Right now our biggest coaster is the Intimidator which is racing themed (Charlotte is a big NASCAR city)

http://coasterbuzz.com/CoasterPhoto/CoasterPhotoImage/4666

232 feet and the tallest, longest and fastest coaster in the southeast. The layout for the new coaster has been leaked and it's going to be around 325 feet if that gives you an idea :)

Sooooo there's a media event announcing whatever this new coaster is going to be, plus crazy rumored expansions/etc on the 21st. Only news crews/media and 20 people from the public are invited. I get to go :) Got invited because I'm a long-time member of the Carowinds forum and the park apparently monitors the site. I'm stoked! The first piece of the track will probably be there.

Orlando will get a 570' high one-of-a-kind coaster sometime in 2016. The ride will be called The Skyscraper and is part of the Skyplex project to be located about a mile from Universal right on heavily-trafficked International Drive (where I work!). The ride basically wraps around the skyscraper to be built and will interact with glass-enclosure elevators that take visitors to the observation deck/restaurant at the top of the building. Loops, inversions and barrel rolls are all promised along with a max speed of 65mph! They're talking about an unlimited day pass for under $20.

There's a video if you google "Orlando Sentinel Polercoaster"...that was the first name chosen but ditched (lawyers?).

Together, with the 450' high observation wheel and its surrounding park (Eye-Drive Live opens early '15), I-Drive is getting a lot more exciting.

Schedule a trip and I'll "wheel" you around on one of my famous tours!

The observation wheel will be running (cross our fingers!) soon after the New Year...not as exciting as a coaster but nice views! They also have an aquarium and a Madame Tussaud wax museum going in there. That's about a mile and a half from Universal property, right on I-Drive. The coaster will be built even closer to their park. It's why they're so "territorial" about protecting their turf.

Six Flags America in Prince George's County will be conducting an investigation into what caused a roller coaster to stall Sunday, leaving 24 people suspended 80 feet off the ground for several hours.

...

The ride became stuck around 2:30 p.m. with 17 adults and seven kids aboard, suspended 80 feet off the ground. Given umbrellas and water by rescue crews while they waited, no injuries were reported.

It was 7 p.m. before the last rider was safely on the ground.

Alpengeist at BGW is taller (195 ft. to 167 ft.) and has a bigger drop (170 ft. to 150 ft.). Banshee has a slightly greater maximum speed (68 mph to 67 mph) and more inversions ( 7 to 6).

Nobody mentioned B&M's latest innovation--it's first launched coaster, Thunderbird, debuting in 2015 at Holiday World, in Santa Claus, Indiana. Thunderbird will be a launched wing coaster, 140 ft. tall, with 4 inversions, two headchopper elements, and 0 to 60 mph acceleration out of a barn in 3.5 seconds. It looks really cool:

@Ronaldo, I think Busch Gardens Williamsburg is the nicest park as far as aesthetics, and it pretty much wins the award for best scenery and food every year.

You are correct, there is no big first drop. They want to you hang upside down slowly in the first few curves. Then they send you down some long drops.

The animation definitely shows more than the still. It makes me motion sick!

The first business (a 7-11 just north of Sand Lake Rd on I-Drive) on the tract where it's to be built has already closed. The other tenants must close very soon too to begin demolition in the first stage of the project. Meanwhile, right across the street, work continues on the Orlando Mango's Tropical Cafe, owned by the same developer. Down about a quarter-mile, the observation wheel (Orlando Eye) has roughly 25% of the exterior arc attached to the inner arc. The owners there project an "early 2015" completion date for it but that doesn't look possible based on the rate they have been constructing. Probably, early summer.
I can't wait bcoz it will mean a lot steadier flow of visitors right in the corridor I work!
