Since when has age got anything to do with tennis? Djokovic is a retirement machine. He holds the all-time record for most retirements. He even did it in the Davis Cup semis this year!

Since like uh....forever?:-?
Doesn't matter if Djokovic retired. What matters is that he knows how to win. Just like your beloved Rafa retired countless times.
Didn't he retire when getting crunched by Murray at AO '10 and decided to ruin Murray's victory by retiring when 0-3 down in the third set when he easily could've just stuck around for another 3 games, accepted the bagel and then taken a plane back to Spain?

Doesn't matter. What matters is that Nadal has retired many times. Against Monaco, Davydenko and Murray. Both Nadal and Djokovic have their flaws in that regard but Nadal abuses the rules more than most. Illegal coaching and ridiculous use of MTOs when he's in trouble.

Cheers. I'll be uploading some soon that involve Nadal, but unfortunately for you it will be a 3 part series about Nole's victory in the US Open 2011 Final. But still, part 2 is really pro Nadal. Djokovic, and most of the top players, are extremely competitive and all push themselves beyond what their bodies allow. This extraordinary drive is the reason they are on top of the world and also the reason they slip from that position every so often only to come back stronger. I believe any of the top 4 players could finish #1 next year.

I don't expect those who haven't accomplished anything at the professional level in sports to understand the dynamics involved. The first post you see after a sub par performance of a top tennis player is "He's done". What a joke.

This is way, Federer is the GOAT.

He did almost the same in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and he never pushed himself too hard. He could do it almost injury free.

Rafa and Novak did it but with a lot of cost to their bodies.

Says the guy with Beavis and Butthead as an avatar that hasn't studied for a second the relationship between mind and body. I didn't make this up, it's thoroughly documented in many books. Of course I don't expect many people here to read any worthwhile and informative literature.

Look up the "fight or flight" response in humans. A small component in the relationship between the body and the mind. Are you aware of the differences between conscious and sub-conscious mind? I bet not.

What definition? Define "beyond your limits".

Ever run til you puke from exhaustion? What if I told you while you're keeled over in your own vomit completely exhausted that there is something I could do that will make you get up and run another few miles at your top speed? If that were to happen, would that define "beyond your limits'?

On another note, if you over train and don't allow the proper time for your body to recover, you have pushed it beyond it's limits and it will preserve itself by disallowing the expenditure of more energy until full recovery.

Most bans are for a week or so, so they expire. Clarky21 is an exceptional case who gets banned for only a day at a time. She must "know people". ;)

The best is to avoid a ban by not insulting posters. If you really find a poster irritating, then instead of calling him names you can:
1. put him on ignore list

If that still doesn't feel satisfying enuf, you can :

2. respond to his silly posts with replies like:
"most excellent post"
"I totally agree"
and such-like. Also, check some of Hit-man's posts.

But never never insult a poster, it only gives them more passion and mental strength. :)

If that still doesn't feel satisfying enuf, you can :

2. respond to his silly posts with replies like:
"most excellent post"
"I totally agree"
and such-like. Also, check some of Hit-man's posts.

But never never insult a poster, it only gives them more passion and mental strength. :)

You're right, of course, ALL IN, but don't expect the anti-Rafa brigade on this forum to understand an intelligent argument. They're more into the 12 year old type taunting and bashing and insulting.

I died laughing at this statement, coming from a group of fans that insulted Federer and his wife on this board because Federer lost a match to Nadal

ALL IN

So.... ALL IN what sports were you able to achieve professional status in? If you haven't, then by your own statement, you don't know either.

Do tell

I am a Psychologist with experience counseling professional athletes among other things. I played #1 singles for four years at a D1 school, have an older brother who played in the NBA from 92-99 and a younger brother who had acquired 105 ATP points at one time, also in the mid 90's. If you think I'm not qualified to make these assessments, I respect your opinion, but politely disagree.

What definition? Define "beyond your limits".

That which is physically impossible for a person to do. e.g., jump 10 feet high.

If an angry bear intent on killing someone was chasing them, that would push them to their limits (but not beyond, which is impossible).

I think whether you can push yourself beyond your limit or not is based on what you define as your body's limit. For example there are several known documented cases of people performing inhuman feats of strength - such as a rock climber throwing an 800 lb slab of rock off his body when he was trapped. Of course immediately after, he suffered from torn muscles ligaments and what not. I would not define 800 lbs as the bodys limit just because he was able to do it. For me the body's limit would be what you can achieve WITHOUT injuring yourself. For example I run 5ks now. I could probably do 10-15k without injuring myself. If I ran a marathon, I would probably end up with knee and foot pain for a month so THAT would be what i define to be my limit. But I'm pretty sure that if my survival depended on it I could do 100k!!

Basically there are 2 limits. One is the limit of what you can do without damaging your body and one is the limit of what you can do in some extreme survival situation and which will wreck your body but keep you alive.

then you don't understand the concept of limit.
