David Taylor (Sam Stosur's coach) has a big opinion on Ashleigh Barty as the story below shows.
Has anyone seen her play?
Opinions?

Esteemed coach David Taylor has urged Australian tennis fans and officials from burdening teenage sensation Ashleigh Barty with unfair expectations.
Taylor on Friday hailed the 15-year-old junior Wimbledon champion as not only the hottest talent in world tennis, but also potentially even better than the great Martina Hingis.
``She's the real deal. She is amazing,'' Taylor told AAP.
The legendary Evonne Goolagong Cawley agreed, lauding Barty's ``fantastic'' all-round game, but Taylor said it was critical the youngster was allowed to develop before being over-hyped.
``We have to be careful with her,'' he said.
``People are excited because she is such an outstanding talent and we haven't had one like that for so long.
``But she's still got a long way to go and so many things can wrong before she becomes a top-20 player.
``She's not even close to that. The distance she has to travel to get there is way off so let's just be excited about her potential for now, eh.''
Barty this month won the Australian Open wildcard playoff and is sure to attract plenty of attention when she makes her grand slam main-draw debut in Melbourne next month.
And not even Taylor's cautiousness could temper his enthusiasm for a prodigious talent who last year took up a dream invitation to train in Las Vegas with Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi.
``She's a complete tennis player, an updated and better version of Hingis. She already serves better,'' said Taylor, who formerly coached the Swiss Miss, as well as fellow ex-world No.1 Ana Ivanovic, retired Australian ace Alicia Molik and who now mentors US Open champion Samantha Stosur.
``I haven't seen anyone with this much potential before. At 16, I saw Ivanovic lose to Venus Williams 7-6 7-6 in Zurich, but her game - big serve, big forehand - is totally different.
``Barty doesn't have the power of Venus or Serena but she's got intuition that you can't really teach.
``She changes the pace really well, changes the tempo. She can play on any surface, she handles the pressure well ... there's not many holes in her game.
``She's got everything. She just gets it. That's why she's so special.''
Taylor's lavish praise for Barty came after Goolagong Cawley said she couldn't wait to see the Queensland starlet match it up with the pros at Melbourne Park.
``I will be following her every point,'' she said.
``I saw her play during the Australian Open (juniors) last year. She has an all-round game.
``It was nice to see someone who slices the ball, plays drop shots - she has great variety in her shots and she goes for it, she tries them. When they all come off, she's fantastic.''

Sounds like she has great potential, I'll keep an eye out for her at Melbourne.

Was following those juniors on both girls and boys sides.

I would say Ash Barty is the most promising among other girls like Khromacheva (RUS) , Vekic(CRO), Putintseva (RUS), Konttaveit (EST).

They´re all 16 or less years old, but all of them at least twice as talented as the 17,18,19 year old girls out there.
They´re just another members of the generation suck bunch.

On boys side I seriously don´t see anyone highly talented, probably that Italian lefty, Quinzi born 96, Coric (CRO) born end of 96, Milojevic (SRB) born 95.

The other junior players are all born in 93 94 but are pretty much lacking potential.

it's a bit dangerous to be labelling juniors as the 'next best thing' too early. Everyone was raving about Caroline Garcia but haven't heard much from her since.

I'll be sure to watch her. But syc23 has a good point about pushing juniors too much. I don't like it whan they sorta pressure juniors to win every match they play.

OP, never heard of her name until your thread...

interesting though...just saying...

I am more of interested in Tomic, the Australian male tennis legend since age of 16...

She is the real deal. Tomic is nothing compared to her.

Ash watches the ball like Federer, the only 2 players that do that in world tennis. She's got similar forehand, serve and ROS as well.

In fact Ash Barty is more similar to Federer than Dimitrov is, except the backhand.

Here is proof:

His eyes are nowhere near the ball...

Would be surprised if she never becomes No.1 to be honest.

Nice photos!
Saw her play Wimbledon Juniors last year & in particular 3rd round vs Madison Keys. She looked in trouble , to be outgunned by a bigger server, hitter but when I got back to her match after watching Luke Saville dodge a bullet against another fine dutch? junior, she had won in 3, she went on to win the girls event.(Saville won the boys).
She got a WC for Brisbane & crashed but later did well in dubs with Casey.
It was maybe a coincidence as you need a bit of luck...but she will always lift in Oz.
Some would argue she makes her own luck.
she is a great talent & with Stolts & maybe later D.T. looking after her, she is a good prospect!
I don't know how anyone can pick a future no. 1 @ 15!!
Even in the girls, who are definitely accelerated, it is hard to pick.

She has pretty big ground strokes for a young girl, but she's no Hingis. She'll probably be a typical ball bashing top ten WTA player within 5 years. Her temperament is quite good, which will put her ahead of 99% of the girls out there.

bendex,
she won't be a ball basher, at 15 she managed to win her worst match at Wimbledon juniors by quick problem solving against a stronger opponent, who was trying to hit her off the court. She defended for close to an hour, till she worked the other girl out & then counter-attacked. Sound like somebody?

She is close to Hingis...listen to DT, even if you won't listen to me!
Her temperament is great but her improvisation & skills are even better.
If she spends another 2,3 years with stolts you will have another little aussie champion!:)

I agree she will probably go far, but there are no Hingis' on the horizon. Hingis was winning WTA tournaments at 15.

My ball bashing comment was a little rough. :) But watching her play doubles the other day, she doesn't quite have the natural hands that a "great" player might have. Her ground strokes were impressive, however.

Tough start to the pros, though, got beaten badly in Hobart.

Yeah. Watched her play the dubs with the continually injured Casey Dellacqua. Her volleys are not great and her doubles awareness is questionable but she is a very good ball striker. She is only 15 I think but has the quality striking of a much older player. She is a big strong girl and will only get stronger. Good to watch an 'old school' type player for a change, even though she is so young.

She's got great skills at the net and fast hands. I don't know what match you guys were watching but her net play was impressive playing with Casey.

As DT said, she's the complete tennis player.
