According to ESPN and the Beeb, out for "personal reasons".

Was hoping he would have a good run. Wish him the best of luck.

What kind of personal reasons?

Poor James. Although I think it's got to do with the phase of his career as well. There are very few personal reasons that would make you drop out of a grandslam a month beforehand if you were no.4 in the world.

What a shame I always enjoy watching him play.

On another level he's a nice guy who's been through a lot.
Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

As in he really doesn't feel like playing in the AO this year?

So let's see, so far Soderling and Blake are out of the AO. Sucks for them as Soderling was a top player and Blake could get darkhorsey and give us a good match early on. His battle with DelPo in AO 2010 was great to watch.

Don't know what's up. I know he just got engaged, though I don't think that would have anything to do with pulling out of the AO.

I heard it was a knee problem!

Hmm... that can't be the reason IMHO. If it was medical. he'd just say so, won't he?

Big deal he would have lost in the first round anyways.

Its really a shame. He had a shot of doing pretty well

That sucks. Australian and US are the only slams where he has a shot of going fairly deep.

Too bad, I liked watching his "winner or no winner" stragety :)

I always liked Blake. Personable, fun to watch - yeah, his consistency was questionable but he got it together long enough for a stint in the top 10 and the status of number 1 American.

Plus, prime Blake was always one of the type of players where if he got on a roll with his FH and speed, chances are the other guy wouldn't be able to do a goddamn thing to stop him (barring Fed and a few others) and it was absolutely amazing as a viewer. Yeah I never thought he had the consistency to win a slam, but he ALWAYS had the potential to just blow someone off the court on any given match.

His career has been over a long time, he probably would have gone out in round 1 or 2 anyway.

To pull out for personal reasons is pretty bad, the end of his career is close for sure.

Nice bloke and very well liked on the tour, even by non amercians like djoker.

Great to have around the poker tables.

Just proves todays slower HC surfaces and grinding tennis is to hard on the body. To many balls come back to blake now.

Too many of Blake's shots go out, as well. :)

He's still ****ed off at Shriver and haven't got it off his chest since last year Wimbledon when she criticizes his game. LOL

She pushes people out of the way at events and is rude, a totally selfish person, gives American tourists a bad name..

And she's a VERY LOUD b1tch.

This thread makes me sad. James has dealt with so much adversity from his bad knees as a kid to his dad's passing. I wish him the best of luck in the future.

And we won't hear someone like Darren Cahill say something like, "Jimes Blike hits the boll with a lot of pice." :)
