Did anyone watch the world team tennis saturday night on espn2? Anna was brilliant in her doubles' matches. She even handled Mardy Fish's best serves, except just one ace. She was the best player on the court in both of her matches. She was partnered with Knowles who played well but if anything, he put Anna in jeopardy several times during the match and she remained tough and pulled them through. I was very impressed with her. I think she summed it up very well when she said that she doesn't get nervous and feel pressure when she plays doubles. Without a doubt she would have won some wta singles' titles if she had been able to handle the pressure. At least she proved again that she is a very capable tennis player. She does, however, have to be considered one of the biggest underachievers of all time. Anyway, she's laughing all the way to the bank despite not fullfilling her potential in tennis.

So maybe she should start playing again?

Too bad she's remembered only for her 0 singles titles instead of her 16 doubles titles including 2 doubles Slam titles. I don't see any reason why she would want to play on the tour again when she can fun playing once in a while at exhibitions. The glory is in winning singles titles which she sees unable to do. She's a great doubles player, but no one cares how many more doubles titles she could might win. PS glad to hear Knowles is back from injury in time or the hc season.

there are supposed to be some new rule changes regarding doubles on tour, to try and coax more players to play... shorter sets and so on. if more of the top level players get in, and it gets more coverage, then maybe anna will come back.

but to be honest, i think tennis is just a hobby for her now.

Haha, more like 4 aces.

Haha, more like 4 aces.

That's what I was thinking. The first time Fish served to her, he aced her with a kick serve. She acted like she'd never seen a kick serve before. In fact, I don't recall her getting many of his serves back at all. That being said, however, I agree that she's a good doubles player and had a good night at the net. I would if she would consider a return to the tour as a doubles specialist??

Does anyone else think that Kournikova will attempt another comeback within 3 years? What else she gonna do?

Her officially not retiring is a publicity stunt, and a smart one. Once she's officially retired, her stock will drop considerably.

Just my opinion, but I have always thought she was one of the most natural and graceful athletes I have ever seen. I think her Mom's influence on Anna greatly limited her ability to be coached. This killed her in singles. That being said, she loves the spotlight and just might come back. She appears to remain in great shape for tennis based on her performances in WTT. She is practicing and it might happen. It would be a major boost to women's doubles tennis.
