View Full Version : These kick serves are on another level

This is a video of Verdasco hitting serves (several are kick). Somehow this video really communicates the CRAZY pace that these guys get on their serves. I think it may be because the fence is a traditional 20 inches from the baseline rather than the extended distance we're used to seeing.

Anyway, it's always good to watch pros serve. These are regular speed videos as well, which are increasingly difficult to find.

Now multiply that by 1.2 and you get Milos' serve :)

These guys are masters of technique, of course, but being built like Abrams military tanks should also help a wee bit with kick serves, I would think... :)

he should use these more so he doesn't double fault so often.

Wow, that video blew me away. Some monster serves indeed. I then looked around on youtube videos and stumbled across a video of him playing against Fed. His serves didn't look too impressive against Fed.

If the fence is 20 inches from the baseline, you must serve-&-volley.

Some here still do not realize how far behind the best of us is from the Pros... A good indication of that with a bunch of people on this board believing they can actually beat (or for that matter take a single game from) Radwanska

Yes, no matter how good my kick serve gets, THAT will never happen to me for sure. I do not have the physique to produce that kind of racket head speed.

I've actually heard several posters claim that many rec players (often including themselves) can hit serves as big as the pros, but just not as consistently or without the other areas of the game.

Verdasco has a good serve I think. He has the abilty to crank up the first serve in the 130's, and the second serve has some wicked spin because he is a lefty.

I think he starts to double fault when he is under pressure and his confidence is shakey.

Why would being left handed give him access to more spin? Surely it would just reverse the spin relative to a righty, no?

I think he meant wicked in terms of direction for a right hander, not that it has more rpms than other players.

That is impressive. They consistently hit them 4 to 5 feet up the fence. I'm happy when mine reach the one foot mark...lol.

I have seen a rec players actually consistently hitting 110+ mph first serves, but no variety or accuracy -- even though they are heavy and fast, after about 5 of them, you start reading them and returning without any problems...

I can hit a pretty good kick serve to the add court.. with the ball going head high... but.. I seem to be able to do it only in practice...

in matches I tense up.. or something.. and do not get the necessary racquet head speed...

Anways...nice video.

Definitely awesome serves. Whats amazing is at 32 seconds, Federer returns one identical to the first one in the video and puts the pressure on Verdasco immediately coming over it with his one hander!

The best part? Pros don't hit kick serves the same way as some rec players. A lot of us go for height, but theirs have a lot of forward motion, so not only does it bound high, but it comes at the receiver too! Very impressive!

Nice serving, from two guys who's serves are not reknown for being big. Of course, they're good enough to slaughter any college Div1 5.5 or 6.5.
Would they serve as impressively in Alaska right now?
When serve vids are posted, should court and ball temps be posted also?
