So I demoed a yonex vcore 95d for a while and like it quite a bit. Just to be sure, I tried the other two and the 100 was out of the question but the 98 caught my interest. Granted the one I tried was weighted with tape so it had more pop and plow through than a stock model. What are your opinions on these two racquets? I'm really torn.

Depends are you playing level and the weight is so close between the two. I would chose between the feel and control because 95d is powerful enough for me. Is 95d forgiving enough for you?

It seemed to be fairly forgiving. I played a set against my friend of equal skill and did pretty well. I noticed that my backhand was significantly better with the 98. Perhaps the more forgiving 98 is better suited for me.

Any more thoughts? Preferences?

You could play the 95 stock, whereas with the 98 you'd probably have to lead it.

In which case i'd buy the previous 98 model.

Makes no difference.
3 squares, or even 5, plays close enough, and who really knows what you need?
Hit some fast first serves.
Block some returns.
Volley a few.
Choose the one you like.
As for heavier weight helping with pace....if you have some modern strokes, you'll find anything heavier than mid 10's can spank the ball fast enough for a forcing shot or winner. You just have to make the shot.

i agreed with this statement...95d stock, feels pretty solid...the 98D feels like it's lacking something (aka, a lot of weight) -- i've hit with the new xi98, which isn't that much heavier than the 98D, but it feels WAY more solid...

Tried 98 and it felt SUPER stiff to me. The top third of the head felt unlike anything I've tried before. Felt even stiffer than my Pure Drive Swirly?!

I just hit with both yesterday.
Another thing to think about is that 95 feels a bit faster through the air.
For myself, I like that better because I could then add more weight than the 98.
95 is also a bit more flexible, and had a bit better feel.

I found that the 98 suited me a bit better. At this point in my game a little larger sweet spot is what I prefer. I also found that I really enjoyed the power of the 98. I take more of a moderate-fast swing on most balls, but the racquet didn't have TOO much power, so that I could really rip one and take a big cut for a winner. Another thing is the stiffness. I enjoy the feeling of a stiff racquet, and this one was right up my alley in that department. With this power boost over the 95, i found that there was very little loss of control. Also quite frankly, the 98 just felt better to hit with. The 95 is still a fantastic racquet and excels in almost every department. There is nothing wrong with it, it just doesnt suit my game quiiiiite as well as the 98 :)
