the courtballistecs and vapors are 130$. last year they were 125 and the year before 120$. i really think 130 is not worth it when the shoes last me like 3 months despite the 6 month warranty

... because they can. Given the parlous state of the economy, price deflation is the new norm ... so they think their marketing can make you pay whatever they ask ... so far they're right

So long as Fed and Nadal are sponsoring their line of apparel and shoes, Nike can charge whatever they want and most people will still buy it.

Simple economics, they charge what consumers are willing to pay.

Greed. Nike shoe prices have increased across the board in nearly all sports. I do believe they had the gall to release a recent statement claiming it was due to increases in material cost though.:???:

its so simple. dollars are weaker than 2 years ago.

A lot of prices are going down, but not all obviously, so there is a lot of price deflation in the system.

Surely you mean inflation?

In Europe, or Netherlands at least, they always are 125 euro every year. But we have enough reliable and good internet shops that sells them for around 110 euro.

The Vapor 9 is transforming the lives of rec players up and down the west coast. These shoes are revolutionary. So much so that Roger chooses not to actually wear the retail version in public because of their infinite holiness.

Why does Nike raise prices? Because people are dumb enough to keep buying them!!

They're the adolsescent fantasy object in terms of shoes.

I just wait until a new line comes out and the old prices go down. Then BOOM one pair of vapor 9 for 50 dollars less.

'Cause suckers keep buying them.

How much do they cost iniatially? Maybe 10 bucks. They are mass produced items not handmade, but some fall into the trap of buying these overpriced items that will last maybe 6 months in good condition.

I think you're right. Tennis shoes are marked up for demand, not for cost. I think $60-80 will get you the best quality and performance available today. This includes discontinued models that are marked down and perfectly good shoes that have never appealed to the fashion crowd. If you spend more than that, you're paying for fashion and marketing.

Eh, no. Tell that to the Chinese and Vietnamese workers.

... because they can.
That!

'Cause suckers keep buying them.
And that too.

Or more!

People buy them because they're good.

I usually get them on sale because technology and material is the same most of the time. Same fuctional benefits for less is a good thing in my book. Especially, when Nike is just changing the colors of the newer issue.

Because Phil Knight is improving the working conditions in the Chinese sweat shops where the shoes are manufactured. When you purchase an extra fan for each sweat shop, someones gotta pay for it and its sure not gonna be Phil.

Ask Pros to take less $$$ from Nike, especially fed and nadal haha.

I am not sure about their contracts but I think pro players endorsement money might be going up higher and higher too.

for example, if some one has 100 mil contract over 10 years, company might not offer 10 mil per a year. I think their contract looks like this.
1-2 yr. 8 Mil per a year = 16 mil
3-4 yr. 9 Mil Per a year = 18 mil
5-6 yr. 10 Mil per a year = 20
7-8 yr. 11 Mil per a year =22 mil
9-10 yr. 12 Mil per a year = 24 mil
=======================
Total = 100 mil.

I don't think tennis population numbers grow significantly every year so there are limited number of products which Nike can sell every year but cost of operations are higher (higher labor, materials.... etc) . what can they do???? Only option will be...increase price of products.

Because the public keeps paying the outrageous prices. Buy another brand or the lower price brand. Nike CEO has to make millions more each year to fund his 5,000 arce ranch in Montana at the expense of 3rd world workers who make less than $10K a year. And, the whole time the CEO will be complaining about US corporate tax rates and how US environmental regulations and US unions force him to move production outside the US which is all a big lie as he just wants to pay $2 per hour for labor and dump the factory waste in the closest river to save money for his next ex-wife's alimony payments. And, then the politicians tell us we need to cut corporate tax rates to increase US jobs which the CEO of Nike paid them to say so he can fund his next 25 year old girl friend with the savings. Capitalism at its best.

I agree with most of your post but youre crazy if you thnk Phil Knight is paying those workers in the Chinese slave shops $10k a year. More like $2K if they work plenty of overtime everyday of the year.

I dont know about anyone else but I have totally stopped buying Nike tennis shoes. I get the Princes or New Balance with the 6 month warranty. Lighter on the feet and the wallet.

Jam it Nike.

mostly because material and labor costs have increased greatly. They have to hit the same profit margins or their stock drops so they raise prices.

More like $2K if they work plenty of overtime everyday of the year. And maybe even less. Foxcomm workers where iPhones are assembled barely make that - and electronics is tougher to assemble than shoes.

They'll keep doing the $5/yr increase until they take a significant hit in sales.

It's price inelastic!

Double the price and people will still buy them simple cos Fedal are wearing them, and they think it will make them play like them.

All they want is money and they use the cheapest product but people like the shoes so they can keep it up!

Nike was not only an innovator in making overly-cushioned running shoes but also in raising athletic shoe prices. They first sold a MJ basketball shoe for over $100 in the 1980s!

Adjusted for inflation, that would put that shoe at over $200 today. So, comparatively today's shoes are not absurdly expensive.

I don't normally pay attention to Nike shoes in any case as they are mostly too narrow for me.

Never buy retail price but look out for sale on color and old model. I mean you can get it for 60-80 (even at factory store cheaper but it is hit and miss)

By the time TW reduces them they may be out of your size. And the outlet stores don't always carry a lot of tennis gear - or a particular style.

+1. But i really want Tomic shoes and a Hewitt Yonex shirt. Their sooo expensive.

Went to america last year, i was stunned for find the Nike Eclipse shoes for $50 + tax from some outlet. So im using them for tennis shoes now.
