i was stringing my ASTGT and I forgot to put the spacers in while stringing, I use a drop weight stringer. But when I was stringing I created two huge gashes in the frame in the middle of the throat and head arch. I have played with it before and the gashes dont seem to get bigger or crack in anyway. But I did notice a paintchip in the arch of the head near the tie off main grommet. I think it is a paint chip (I hope) but if it is a crack and i do send it back to babolat do you think they will exchange it for a new one, I still am under the warranty, or do you think it will be my fault for creating the crack, any thoughts???

I believe the fact that it is your fault (as you stated) that you may be out of luck.

I dont know how I caused the crack, i never slammed the frame or smashed it on the court. I just believe the fact that I put gashes in the frame that Babolat may think that lead to the crack

any other thoughts??? I hope they will replace it.

Based upon the fact that the frame was strung improperly, I highly doubt they'd replace it. Even if the paint chip isn't a direct result of the faulty stringing technique, that kind of mistake can really stress a frame out and manufacturers won't sit well with that.

...silly me, I thought this was a thread on a new racquet like the Wilson Juice.

Why not post a pix of this damage... flaking paint doesn't sound like a crack to me, though these "gashes" seem unusual.

Be careful when you take the racket off of the mounter. When you mount the racket is there something that you have to screw on to keep the racket mounted? That spiraly rough surface can scratch up the paint.

They'll just send it back to you if you try to send it to them since it was your fault... but the racket shouldn't affect the performance in any way.

Did you string it with 1 piece or 2? If 1, did you start the crosses at the bottom or top (if not an ATW pattern, it would be from the bottom). I know Babolat allows this, but it's not good practice. I've seen it cause cracks around the area you describe (between 9 and 11 o'clock on the frame). I think you're going to be out of luck. Hopefully, its not a crack. The "gashes" you show shouldn't hurt the frame unless you tightened them down too much. Without the spacers, the frame probably just moved back and forth enough to wear off the paint.

i do a two piece, maybe its a deep paint chip and the paint is cracking.

I had crack my babolat pure drive + cortex when i first strung them. i contact them and let the representatives know what happen and when i bought the rackets. i would advise you to try and communicate that to them, worst possible response, Babolat says no replacement and probably stuck with the crack rackets:)

Did you mount it off center cause that mark is definately not in the center.

Mounted on the center..i also had a friend who did the same thing. mounted in the center, used a drop weight and bam, crack frame at 11 or 2 o'clock.

Cannot tell whether it is broken or not but it is certainly not something Babolat should replace under warranty. Live and learn.

You DEF are not stringing correctly your off your center by one. The mark on the lower racquet is right one space, and the top is left one space.

Babolat wont warranty this racquet, nor should they.

I recommend reading more on stringing, or following common sense before ruining another racquet lol.

As someone mentioned, it is definitely mounting off center.

I've had my PDR for about a month and the base of the racquet has already cracked. I can't tell if it is a major crack or just the paint. I take good care of my raquets, especially after dishing out $200+ for this one. Does Babolat have good customer service? Any chance for a replacement?

You strung this frame without the spacer/load spreader in place. Babolat will look at this and chuckle and then refuse your warranty. This was totally your fault.

Seriously? You're trying to convince us this frame was not hit on something? This is clearly frame abuse :)

So, tell us the real story... did you smack it on the ground in anger?

BTW, YES, that's a major crack (run your finger over it).

It's been smacked against the plastic middle of my shoe plenty of times and thrown against the net but I've never directly hit it on the ground. I guess I need to be more careful...

It's not cracked all the way through.. any chance it's still playable?

I smacked it on the middle of my shoe a lot and they weren't gentle taps but I didn't notice it until after the match was over. (My foot still hurts from that match)

But what I'm asking is there any way it is still playable? or is it done for?

Racquets are very tough in some respects (watch some slo-mo video of the impact they absorb) and very delicate in others. Smacking a frame on your shoe or the net just the right way can break it or compromise the integrity. Once the structural integrity is compromised then hitting a hard, shanked overhead can send it over the edge and onto the trash heap.

There is video of Radwanska abusing her frame a couple points before it separates.. and then it separating shortly after right at the cortex on the handle as she follows through on a BH.

As far as the pictures, the bottom wasn't mounted correctly in the middle is one grommet more to the right side, and that is not Babolat's fault, that is yours.

You have to be glad that it didn't crack, you only had paint issues.

I did like the OP to a pro open and that really bummed me out. Basically you have to use a babolat piece on the stringer with the Pro Open. I learned that a little late and lost some paint. Luckily the stick plays like new, but you have to be careful with those thin bridges.

The plastic bit on a shoe is pretty hard and it'd be enough to do that to a frame on it's own. It's cracked, it is done i'm afraid though you might be able to hit with it again i exepect it'll be a different feel.Doubt you'll find a pro to string it either.

As long as it can hit a ball, it's still playable ;)

If you decide to trash the frame, please cut it open at the throat and at the hoop to let us know if it has a foam core.

You'll be a TT legend if you can do this ;)

If you don't know what a foam core is... ask :)

There's no way that that'll get covered by Babolat. That looks like intentional abuse. Stupid is as stupid does...

Babolat sent back a shiny new racquet with string and a new sleeve. Got it back within about a month of sending it off

You have been quite lucky i think, take care of this one and FYI throwing a frame against the net is abuse.
