Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but watching the AO's women matches i see some of them even scratch the ground with their knee, whereas men seem to just bend over more from the hip and not use the knees as much?

To get the ball up over the net since it's so heavy.

Women's game is flatter, faster groundies which can skid low.
Men's game is much more topspin which generally bounce up high.

Also men have much less flexibility than women in general so deep knees squat may be little tougher for men.

You see this in Yoga classes.

Maybe they're just better at taking instructions from their coach.
"Bend you knees on low balls. It's more work but gives a better result".
I say it all the time.

It's not much less and this is mostly true for rather untrained people. Men can also be extremely flexible with some practice, just look at the kind of stuff Nole does.
Furthermore, I don't think it requires such an extraordinary flexibility to hit a backhand like that.

this.
todays women slap the ball flat and hard. men all hit very heavy topspin thus the balls bounce higher and they can stay more upright.

Women tend to hit the two-hander with bent elbows. Men tend to hit the two-hander with straight arms, which gives them a horizontal racket at a position about a foot lower.

i guess it would depend on the shot.

i see many women wit twohanders high in the air....for two anhders catching the ball early on teh rise it may require getting their torso lower to bring the ball up with heavy spin and depth.

biomechanically the two hander may require the torso to be lower than stretching one arm.

It's instinctive. They secretly have more practice at doing power squats in cucumber fields with tomato plants flowering nearby. So, when they see balls hanging in the air, they start squatting uncontrollably.
