View Full Version : Kblade & Donnay Pro one 18x20 version comparison

Intro:

I was really psyched to compare these two sticks because they are so similar in specs.

The cool thing about the Donnay is that with the customization it can either play like the Kblade or the Kblade tour.

Depending on the day or the conditions of the weather you can decide without the need for dealing with lead tape .

The Donnay Pro one 18x20 is basically a more powerful and more maneuverable Kblade .

It's as if Donnay sought to make an improved version of the Kblade.
It's like a Kblade on steroids

It's should be noted that the Donnay Pro one 18x20 comes out in the spring . However it's merely a Donnay dual pro with a paint job and a new name . You can still purchase at Donnay or wherever or wait for the new paintjob here at TW.

Control:

DP 9/10
KB 8/10

Both sticks were near perfect on control. I could pinpoint shots and the feel is similar on both sticks.

But the Donnays ever so slightly smaller head size made it just a tad more maneuverable.

This is an example of why I say the Donnay is a Kblade on steroids .

It's as of Donnay sought out to target the Kblade and just tweak it ever so slightly .

Power:

DP : 7/10
Kn: 6/10

Both racquets are underpowered for my game. Basically I'm not good enough for either stick. That's why I played with the Babolat and now the
Donnay pro one 16x19 version.

Having said all that , the power department is where the Donnay has the Kblade beat.

The Donnay is just a bit more powerful and although the beam is ever so slightly thicker for more power they also lowered the head size by one inch.

The result is a bit more power with zero loss in control.

Pop in the customization and "viola" you have a Kblade tour but again just tweaked a bit for more power and control

slice:

Dp :8/10
Kb: 7/10

As all Donnays these things slice great. I'll put a Donnay up against any stick in the slice department .

The slightly smaller head size and the increase in power just gave the Donnay a bit of the edge here. The donnay just has slightly more bite.

Topspin:

DP : 8/10
Kb :7/10

frankly Im not a great topspinner and admittedly I cant give a good review in this department. But I would say Like everything else I just got a bit more with the Donnay.

Donnay has a bit more Power with no loss in control .

Serves

DP : 7/10
KB 6/10

Both had perfect control on the serves but I could not generate nearly as much power with the Blade as with the Donnay .

Once again the Donnay is just a hair better.

Volleys:

Dp: 9/10
Kb: 8/10

Both sticks were near perfect. The control was all there and the volleys were penetrating.

Touch and droppers

DP9/10
KB 8/10

The 97 square Inch of the Donnay just proved to be just slightly more maneuverable for the droppers.

They are so close in this department that if you closed your eyes it would be difficult to tell which racquet you were playing with .

return of serve:

DP: 7/10
Kb : 6/10

The DP had just a little more power for deeper returns and was bit more stable due to a slightly thicker beam.

Arm friendliness

DP: 8/10
Kb : 6/10

Here is the one area where the Donnay beats out the Kblade by quite a bit.

It's a flexier racquet at 64 compared to the kblades 67.

It's a bit of a softer touch and much more elbow friendly . I found the Donnay to be better on late forehands as well with less shock to the arm.

Conclusion:

I'm not good enough for either of the sticks, but I found it easier to play with the DP.

I think if your a very accomplished player who likes a k90 then you may like the blade better . But I stress the word "may". The DP just seems to do everything a touch better.

The cool thing about the DP as all
Donnays is that you can customize without the need for lead tape.

The customization on these pro ones more so than any other Donnays I found makes a huge difference . It's almost like playing with a different racquet.

The thing I like about it is that the court inditions change for very match I play, the way I'm feeling changes, the surface , and even the string tension.

The ease of customizing on this racquet is a big deal. Conditions change from day to day and now so can my racquet.

I have Donnay Dual Pro 18x20, and played with KBlade ~3 months ago.
My conclusions were somewhat different: Donnay was harder to swing, and way too much power. K-Blade was easy to move around, less oomph, easy to play at the net. As far as forcing the racquet to do what you want, K-Blade was better. As for the feel, I did not care for the feel of either of them.

Actually we agree ....well sort of.

If your a more accomplished player that leans more towards a K90 type I can see why you would like the Kblade better.

We both agree that the Kblade has less "oomph" and you are probably able to make the racquet do more for you.

You don't need a racquet to do any work for you because you are talented enough to do it on your own.

I on the other hand don't have that same talent and unfortunately need a racquet to do more of the work for me . I need more "oomph ".

I did not like either racquet for my game either but for the opposite reason. They were both underpowered for me.

is this a new program? does donnay pay by the post? if so how much and where do I sign up? I wont actually have to play with the racket will I?

VOLLEY KING

well if you like this racket, you'd better stock up. from what I just heard, if Donnay doesn't come anywhere close to breaking even this year, this will be the final chapter for this chicken with out a head.

I've seen all your posts . You really hate Donnay.

Ooh, ooh! Yet another thread by volleyking worshipping Donnay. Hmmm, let's see, he is comparing the virtually unknown Pro One to the ever-popular Kblade. I don't even have to read the review. Let me guess: the Pro One just edges out the Kblade in every category, right? Gee, how utterly predictable. So much for your vow to not start any more Donnay-worship threads. That lasted what? Like three days?

I lied . I'm a donnayholic can't help myself .

But there's no worship here. I Dont Like this version of the pro one .

I think your credibility just dropped to zero there. I'm not trying to bash you, but sometimes I wonder if your intention is to promote pro one or to get everyone to dislike the racket due to your excessive promotion. It really irritates me as I own a pro one and another one is in order, so I really hope more people can look beyond their opinion of you and just focus on the racket. Sadly it seems like more and more people are not commenting on any threads on Pro one due to you :( You may be a donnayholic if it is really true, but if I'm from the company, I will put you in the dislike list for causing so much negative feelings on Donnay.

Well I certainly understand you and you make some valid points.

But truthfully I don't really care. I did the review because I have no other outlet. People in real life don't really care. In fact i dont eve really care. I could give a sheet about whether anyone likes Donnay or not....but i did enjoy giving the review as sort of a hobby . I find it really funny how you guys care so much .

There are a lot of haters on these boards. People who just love to hate for te sake of hating .

No one forces people to read my threads...But they take the time out to do it and they spend quite a bit of time doing it .

Ask yourself why? The reason is simply because they enjoy hating to fill some sort of hole in their lives ?

All I did was give a review ....the emotions that have been elicited over a piece of graphite is just really funny to me.

Guys who the hell really cares about any of this ? Does it really matter ?

Bottom line is I could give a sheet about my "credibility" on this board or what the hell any of you guys think . I don't know any of you and as far as "credibility".....credibility with whom? Who are you? It's not like I'm going to get any money for my "credibility ".

This is just a hobby . I enjoy it . So fire away....spew your venom and hate all you want .

But I love the tech of these Donnays and all sticks for that matter and I enjoy writing about it .

Again ....if you don't like what I write or whatever the don't read it. Or if you get your jollys out of hating then go right ahead and hate. I don't really care.....it's all good. :-)

Look at the measurements of both sticks ....

Everything is about +1

Donnay is 97 and Kblade 98

Donnay 4pts HL Kblade is 3pts HL

Donnay beam is 21.5 Kblade is 20

Donnay swing weight is 327 Kblade 325

It is interesting for someone who enjoys giving reviews but yet does not give a sheet about credibility. I have no hate against you, in fact, there was a time I read your reviews with deep earnest. Again, I guess none of my opinions matters to you anyway. However, you are absolutely right about us having a choice to read your reviews, thanks for the enlightenment!

There are two Volkl shills on these boards that have made me want to dump my V1's.

That's a stick I've always wanted to try.

I heard that the feel is awesome.

I used to play at a club here in NY where John McEnroe played and that's the stick he used. Of course that was before he switched to the Dunlop Maxply McEnroe .

But I'm sure there was money involved for that Dunlop while the Volkl was his own choosing .

VOLLEY KING

On the topic of McEnroe,

I was at Sportime in Manhattan which is where Mcenroes academy is .

Anyway I saw a ton of people playing with the pro one.

I thought it was strange because this is a brand new stick.

But now I see why:

"McEnroe has just signed to use Donnay racquets in his new academy in NYC along with several top junior players. ...... along with ongoing talks with Borg. "

That's a bunch of BS! Two hundred posts in under a month, and 99% of them filled with over-the-top worship of Donnay. If you don't care what anyone thinks, why are you wasting so much time on the boards? Oh, that's right. You're a Donnay plant.

Dude this thread is completely dead....why are you reading it and resurrecting it is the better question? What's the matter you didn't get your daily dose of hate today?

Dont like the thread or me don't read it. But my suspicion is that you cannot help yourself.

Volley King, the ongoing issue is that if I do a search of Donnay on these boards seemingly every thread has you expressing the same opinion of the Pro One or Dual Pro on it. I think you did a good thing in starting your own 'donnayaholic' thread. Much like similar threads dedicated to prince EXO 3 Tours, BB London, etc... Those who want to share your fervent enthusiasm for the racket can convene there. However, leave some of the other threads for those with different viewpoints. It provides a better cross-section of opinions to compare to.

Point made sort of.

I am talking a bit to much about Donnay and that's only because I enjoy talking about it and it's one of the few things I know about more than most.

If you can get past the hate and try and look objectively at what I'm saying you will see that it is far far from praise and that I also talk about a wide variety topics on Donnay.

I think I have truly been very objective and given some great insight as opposed to others who only say praise.

This thread has long been over but it goes on and on with hate. You guys just can't stop reading . Why can't you just let it go? I think it's clear ....haters just love to hate.

If you want to talk about the Kblade comparison I really would love to talk about it but if you just want to hate then please just don't read this thread and let this thread die.

For the record....some of the gripes I have with Donnay...

- they way they discontinue models and replace them or coverups with paintjobs and repackage with new models really ****es me off.

- I think the new Formula racquet is crap. ( by the way it's not even a new racquet it's merely a paint job of the donnay x-p 27)

- the custom strips are a pain in the neck.

-customer service at Donnay is a bit lacking.

- the Pro one 16x19 has a "pingy" cheap feel

- donnay racquets are overpriced

- Donnay used to have a 30 day money back guarantee . Now they don't even have a demo program

That's about all I can remember for now.....but I think you will agree that this things are not praise or enthusiasm .

I heard a lot about that limited edition .

I am dying to try it ! I wonder if they did a paintjob of it and repackaged it with a new name.

I do agree with you , the Donnay Pro one does not have the feel of the older donnay sticks.

I saw it as well. But i think it's b.s. Because when I called they said no demo program.

I hope that I misunderstood. If I did then you can minus one off my "what I hate about donnay" list . :-)
