i think this tournament should be atp 250, because clay season starts after, IW and Miami.

Yeah, that is such a great reason that doesn't deserve to be a 500

i love watching this tournament;so, it should remain a 500.

It's a great tournament. Players love it. They get good crowds. They get some top players. Definitely should be a 500

I think Memphis needs to be a 250!

Sorry, I don't agree with that. :-)

Memphis was always one of my favorite tournaments (except the fact that the umpire's room is a lousy racketball court, and the lights on the 2 small courts is really bad.)

I never understood why Queens isn't a 500

Why stop there? Move the entire golden swing to after Miami. Nah.

gives a chance for lower ranked, still in the top 100 mind-you, to play on a bigger stage, and more ranking points.

No streams for four days:( 500 has to at least offer that. Plus it doesn't pull foreign top ten players. Most of the time it is the top Americans! I should not complain when Raonic is successful there!

Hamburg should be demoted or at least played in the same week as Barcelona! Such an obscure time to play a Clay 500 in Hardcourt Season!

there are several 500 events whose field is generally not much 'bigger' than many 250 (acapulco and memphis being two of them, but they're not the only ones).
here's the list of '500' events (make your choice !):
Acapulco
Barcelona
Basel
Beijing
Dubai
Hamburg
Memphis
Rotterdam
Tokyo
Valencia
Washington

i think a factor of 2 (in terms of ATP points: 250 vs 500) really seems too much too make the difference between acapulco and buenos aires, or between memphis and san jose, for instance.

in this regard, i think the old system was better as there was more flexibility (more different categories of tournaments) in terms of point rewarding, and less differences between a memphis-like and a SJ-like tournament. i guess they supposely did that (only 2 categories: 250 and 500) to make it more simple for the average tennis fan, but still...

The field at Acapulco isn't as bad as some people makes it sound out to be. They have 6 top 20 players this year which is the same for Rotterdam this year, while Memphis only had 2.

I never understood why Queens isn't a 500

This!

But if Queens is a 500, than we need to get rid of some 500's as well. Memphis would certainly make sense, as it's smaller than Rotterdam, Acapulco, Dubai or even Queens

Almagro/Verdasco and Ferrer/Wawa for semis? Sounds like a 500 to me

The disparity in top players between currently ongoing 500s Dubai and Acapulco is jarring to say the least, but I am guessing Dubai has advantage in terms of both appearance fee paid and in terms of location proximity to the current top players. There were some 250s (Doha?) and exhibitions that had draws to rival those of the ATP World tour finals.

OTOH, if the top crop happened to be North or South American, atleast some of them may have preferred and played Acapulco?

But, I think that one of the US swing of 3 hard court tournaments leading up to IW and Miami should be a 500, and out of San Jose, Memphis and Delray Beach, Memphis is the best candidate.

Poor Hamburg, already demoted from a Masters to a 500 and you want to demote it even further??

I think Halle would have something to say about that. They have a bigger stadium and intake and upgrading Queens without doing the same for them would then leave them at a possible disadavantage in attracting top players given they are both played in the same week as a run-up to Wimbledon!
