Welcome back, "Attila the tennis Bum", "balls in your court", "King of Aces" etc.
When are you gonna make a poll about the number of Nadal fans vs Fed fans?

Santoro was the junk king in the 90s and 2000s. Now it's probably Dolgopolov or Tomic.

Come on .....Federer can't be the #1 for everything .
Why don't we just start the church of Latter day Federites.
Sheesh!!!

Are you kidding ??????
Federers backhand slice is just amazing !!!!
Maybe the best ever. I have never seen so much junk put on a ball!!
And that running squash shot has amazing junk on it .
"junk" is not a bad word .....it's just means "spin".....crazy spin.

I thought 'junk' meant no spin or pace. Using heavy backspin, in my mind, doesn't qualify.
But yes, the backhand slice is impressive.

Should have been a poll and Id choose Bahrami

I don't know if Dolgopolov puts "the most" junk on his balls, but he sure hits junk a lot. I've seen him hit a sharply C-curving slice followed by an S-curving slice followed up by a sharp-angled soft dropper. He gets my vote for the Wizard of Junk on today's tour.

Joe what guage do you use on your vortex ? Is there different MSV hex versions or only one ?

McEnroe? Gilbert? Don't think of spin when I think of those two.

Really off topic but guage and rackets do help enhance spin, but the greats could do those wicked spins with their player rackets. Generally can get more spin with thinner guage string and more open patterns. MSV hex comes in many different guages and the Vortex rackets need a thin guage because of the modern grommets, I used 118 in the crosses and 121 in the mains. I could hit much more spin with those rackets than with my pc600s but Im more competitive with my heads.

Yeah but I didn't know how to reach you.
Excuse my lack of knowledge here but does 118= 18 guage? What is 121?

Good video. Nothing like seeing a ball right there not moving fast at all that you simply can't touch.

Federer backhand slice "junk" is his most underrated ground stroke .
I think I actually should have given him the #1 spot.
His junk is just so beautiful that he makes winning ugly look pretty. How many times have we seen him do this:

What's with Yanks and their fetish for the word "junk"?
Why do I never hear Brits use it even once, for anything? I presume it must be a class thing: blue collar origin (macho substitute slang to avoid saying some technical term that may be perceived as sissy-ish)
.

There's nothing else that really describes it.
What word would you use instead?
You could say "spin" but that doesn't really work because Nadal put a lot of spin on the ball but it's topspin not "junk".
You could say "backspin" that's a bit closer but doesn't really describe the insane stuff Santoro or Bahrami puts on the ball. Or what kind of spin would you call that crazy squash shot that Federer hits?
Junk is spin that cannot be taught. It's just a crazy ball. The type of spin that is put on it is indescribable so they call it putting "junk " on the ball.
The term is used for baseball pitchers as well.
