Tilden's 1926.

Federer's 2006.

I think Djokovic's three majors beat John's two. Even if you discount the AO, 2/3 is still less than 3/4

What do you think?

McEnroe is living proof that one great year doesn't make you better than Nadal.

do you really have to talk about Nadal in every thread? annoying. this has nothing to do with your God Nadal.

now, I still think it's not easy to compare these 'eras'.

statistically, JMac had a better year. on the other had Djok had to deal with Raf and Nadal.

Djokovic - because he consistently triumphed over opponents whom previously had dominated him - in short he raised his game in the most phenomenal manner.. Prior to the 2011 season one could be forgiven for thinking he had reached his upper level.

It's really unfair to compare the 80s to now, since in the 80s slam count and especially the AO was not all the rage. Mac didn't even play it in 84 since it came last and he had already lost FO.

John played on 4 real different surfaces, plus his score tells all

My morals doesnt allow me to look at those posts where rafa is shown as a looser. What about 18-9? It hurts,no?

not really, 16 majors is good enough for me.

And did you mean 'loser'? I dont know how being looser would be in a conversation about Rafa losing a bunch of matches.

Btw, 18-9 can't be as painful for anyone as losing 7 matches in a row (Federer has never lost that many in a row to Rafa, go figure LOL)

Now wanna start to poke me,son.
Ain't working cause i'm neutral when it comes to these two.

Kinda bad approach when the previous posts were about Nadal and Djokovic.

(Open Era) McEnroe wins hands down, Novak had his chance but he messed it up

Tilden's 1926.

Tilden's 1921 was better.

Basically Novak was going great guns until the end of the US Open. But the last 1/4 of the year let him down. His 2011 is around 10th on the Open era winning %age list..... so a great year, but not the best.

I think what he did though dominanting the number 2 and number 3 players was unprecedented - so full credit to him for doing so. Its just that his winning percentage let him down for the ultimate price. Being around 10th in the Open era list isn't high enough to be considered the best Open era year.

McEnroe in 1984 dominated both singles and doubles. The guy was extremely intimidating every time he stepped into the court as there was no type of matches that he was not the best.

Didn't Djokovic win 3 slams compared to Mac's 2? So how is Mac's season "hands down" better? :-?

Well 18-9 is very painful for many posters down here.Go ask with the likes of Odd Jack,djoko4thwin and etc etc...You are perhaps a nice guy with open minded thinking,so you dont feel that bad abt 18-9 ..Its kinda same thing for me as 7-0 is quite depressing...lol

Tennis Magazine ranked Djokovic's 2011 the third and McEnroe' 1984 the fourth in Open Era http://www.tennis.com/articles/templates/features.aspx?articleid=15331&zoneid=9
