View Full Version : any way to salvage fresh string job

I strung a blx 6.1 95 16x18 last night with forten sweet 17 mains and a bhb in the crosses. all loooked good, put it in bag to try out today and found that the forten main snapped near 3-4top. the two main ends are tied off at 8bottom. I do have the top cross tied off on a main, 5 top....:(

%#*@ ! What a waste.

Theres been enough talk about cutting out the crosses, God forbid we start talking about reweaving in the mains.

check ur gromments also. make sure its not cracked. but chances its a soft thin syn gut, that's prob the reason.

I would also check to see if clamp to tight.

grommet was ok. i checked clamps and adjusted a little and all went ok the second time around. so far. maybe i pulled a poly cross too much in one spot and weakend the thin syn main.

This happens to the best of us once in a while.

Idk about the 17, but I've never had a problem with Sweet 16.
It may play better in that setup as well.

Lol. Yeah. I was thinking 16 too after it broke. This is my first experiment with a syn gut main and poly cross. Don't know what's going to happen but excited to try it.

With 17 gauge SG mains and poly crosses you are going to break strings a lot. You string broke just inside 3H from the looks of it so it was not friction that caused your break it was too much tension, bad grommet, bad clamp, weak point in string or bad gripper.
You crosses were tied off on one of your mains. If you took the mains out what do you think will hold the top cross?

You crosses were tied off on one of your mains. If you took the mains out what do you think will hold the top cross? :) Much more fun to learn this here; I wouldn't have seen this coming until I tugged on the main to remove it. I've thought of replacing poly crosses and will have to consider this.
Still surprised to learn a couple nights ago that there is a big difference in what side I start stringing crosses on one piece O-ports... must've just gotten lucky the first two times.

Don't do either always replace all the strings.
You probably could have got the main out with the knot but you would have to pull harder. Getting the new main string back in would be a little harder.
