just going out for lessons or hitting with buddies or playing matches, I have not had a satisfying day in a while. i feel like im not doing as well as I could, and not one day I would finish playing and say to my self "dam, you did good today", its always "dam, what is wrong with you". what can I do to improve on this?

Without knowing how often you play... maybe you should take a break. It sounds like you might be a little burnt out right now.

Otherwise, I'd go back and make all your strokes simple. You might have got off track somewhere with a bad habbit and kind of restarting your strokes might get you back on track.

Often times when this happens to me... it's always because I'm either not used to my opponent, or not used to the lousy ball I was playing with at that time. So the best way to satisfy yourself, is to have a serve you are proud of. The serve is one stroke where you are in full control, you do not depend on the quality of your opponent's return, and you do not depend on the quality of the ball much. When you've developed a serve you are proud of, I think you tend to have less unsatisfying sessions.

yea... i think I do play too much, and the people I play are pretty poor players.

should I just avoid playing with them altogether? or change my mindset when playing with them knowing i wont be getting any practice or getting any better? because thats what I feel like and i get so frustrated on the court knowing im not getting better, and sometimes I feel like i play better a month ago.

You could find new hitting partners. That always makes practice a bit more interesting.

I play with players below my skill level and it does make things difficult. You can't expect to play well under those situations. I just think of it as trying to keep my timing to some extent so I'm not as rusty when I play people at my level. It's hard to improve under these conditions and even if you do you can't tell unless you play someone good.

That's how you should feel. If you're satisfied with your hits, you won't get any better. Progress will stop.

Though, it's a good idea to play people above your level or at your level. Playing people below your level really just isn't that great.

My shots are excellent, but I'm not satisfied with them. I feel I could make them more powerful, more angles, more just of everything.

exactly what i first thought when reading donnyz's post. it happened to me a month ago. i was playing lights out for a period of 2 weeks, then i suddenly went cold (i play 2 hrs, 5 days a week). i took a coupla days off, didn't even THINK about tennis.

what happens is that some of your bad habits catch up to you and u start incorporating them in all of your shots. you just need to shake them off, and a well deserved break is the remedy.

yea... the more I play, I feel like im getting worse. like I would hit a shot and be surprised at how bad it is, i mean, i could sworn it was better just weeks ago. I have been playing a lot trying to get better, sometimes I would play 1 hour with a college player, then go home and eat and play another 2 hours. and I just get worse and worse sometimes. so today, im gonna not play tennis and I have a clinic tomorow and see how it goes. and I also have a tournament next week. I sure hope my game can bounce back.

if ur playing agaisnt people who arent really good, well work on other parts of your game then,,, when i play someone who's serve is decent or below, i stand about 2-3 feet inside the baseline to return the serve, cuz it alows the serve to seem like its comming in faster than it actually is, and its awsome doing this,, cuz when i play against someone with a really big serve it helps me out with the pace of the ball.
