that can be normal. Due to back pedalling and side to side movement. Most people don't stretch their butt muscle.

Were you and Bubba playing good prisoner-bad prisoner again?
You probably just are in not good enough shape to play 4 hours. My first match that lasted 3.5 hours I was sore all over for 2 days.

ahahaha, that's great!:D
I agree with the guy above me (the 2nd comment). If you're not used to playing a marathon match like that, it's natural for you to be in pain after 4 hours. I remember doing a tennis camp where I played for at least 4 hours a day for 5 days straight a couple years ago, i was so umprepaired for it, I felt like dying after the 1st day, and I still had 4 to go. I don't think I played tennis for a month after that. I've never had my ass hurt after a match though.

No matter how long of a session you have, I still recommend stretching. I get lazy about it too, but I find I always benefit from it. A light stretch before you warm up, full stretch after warm up, then another full stretch after you play.
That's completely normal, and even positive, according to my physical therapist.
A few years ago, I was having some PT done for back/hip issues, and I had an appt after a weekend singles tournament (= 4 matches in 26 hr). My butt was very sore the next morning at my PT appt, and the physio told me that was good, it meant I was using the RIGHT muscles. FWIW .....

lol funny posts.
Anyways, yes it's common for alot of muscles, including your 3 major butt muscles (gluteus maximus, medius, minimus) to become sore after a long workout, especially one like tennis that which requires alot of all court all direction movement. In fact I was explaining this today to someone. Tennis movement uses alot of different muscles then running and biking. Most joggers and cyclists are surprised how sore their strong muscular legs and lower body are after tennis. It's due to the fact that the lateral movement is often not practiced in alot of workouts. Same goes for your stomach/lower back, and obliques (side of stomach) which get alot of work in tennis as well.
Try some ibuprofen if it hurts bad. Dull soreness is fine and normal but if you feel sharp stabbing pains (hopefully not in your ass :p) in muscles after an intense workout, you most likely have muscle stress in the form of a mild tear, possibly connective tissue. You should relax this area for several days until the pain subsides. After the first day you can use warm heat (not hot or dry, often hot water packs are best 0don't let them get cold though) to help encourage blood flow for healing. If there is significant pain after 4-5 days I would seek a physician. You may have more serious damage. Same goes for soreness. Soreness shouldnt last more then 2-4 days. Any longer and painful should be reported to a doctor as well.
