Should've made a poll.

I'll go for Nadal vs Djokovic, just sustained hitting from both for 6 hours. But I'm also itching to say Murray since I was happy to see him lift his first.

wimby. Had 2 players with contrasting styles, 1 player trying to prove he still had it and the other trying to win it for the first time in front of his "home" crowd.

Nadal Djoker easy.. Both played an extremely high level. At the other 3 slams, one of the participants at each one played at a pretty low level.

French- Djoker's level wasn't all that great
Wimbledon-Murray sucked from the 2nd set on
USO-Djoker was crappy the first two sets and in the 5th

Wimbledon, for sure.

Australian Open without a shadow of a doubt, the quality was top notch, the semi final between Novak and Andy that slam was pretty sic as well. Yup, the Australian Open final.

The French was ruined by the rain and the ugliness of the cold and pathetic French Crowd.

Wimbledon was okay, although ruined the moment Murray failed to take those 2 bps @ 15-40 and then the roof came down.

US Open was about the same as Wimbledon, but special because someone the tennis people wanted to win.

1) AO Final
2) US Open Final
3) Wimbledon Final
4) French Open Final

Lol, the US open final was awash with terrible choking and pushing to the max, not to mention the crap weather and the Monday play. Also the lesser player won. USO was the worst slam this year.

In terms of quality.. AO
In terms of the result... US Open

French was dull
Wimby was exciting for the first two sets but after that played like business as usual predictable.

AO Final. Actually the AO was the best tournament of the year, level of play in the SF/F was something else.

Definitely one of the best tournaments Ive seen in the past few years at least the SF-F in terms of quality of play in Australia

Australian Open had the greatest final match, though the semi between Murray and Djokovic is still match of the year for me. And Federer winning Wimbledon was my favorite one.

Is it just me or is the Australian Open perhaps the best slam?

I completely agree!! Nadal-Djokovic had drama and it was long and exciting. But the semi between nole and murray had way better shot making

I'd say the AO final this year. Very good quality hitting (as well as defense). I'd put Wimbledon second because it was a change of pace, quite literally, as it featured an attacking player and Murray who decided to play an attacking style.

AO: 8

Insane rallies, great drama and very clean hitting from both guys. Easily the best slam final of the year. Aside from Rafa really letting that fifth set break slip away, both guys were otherwise solid throughout the match.

FO: 5

Level of play from Novak was abysmal for much of the first two sets. Rafa played pretty steady. Was pretty neat seeing 2011 Novak steamroll through the third and take the early lead in the fourth. Rain delay was frustrating and seeing Novak dump balls into the net to lose his serve immediately was even more frustrating. Beginning of a fourth set hinted at the possibility of the match going the distance, but wasn't meant to be. Match ended on a pretty lousy note with Novak double-faulting. A lot of hype going into this match, ended up being a fairly disappointing final.

Wim: 6

Was awesome to see Murray playing great tennis for the first stretch of the match. Visibly took his foot off the pedal and let Fed get back into the match, but still played solid tennis throughout the match. A meh final

USO: 4

Both guys were tentative as hell for the first few sets, didn't make for very exciting tennis. Match picks up steam, sorta, as Novak gets more confident and starts ripping winners. The Murray choke of the second set was hard to watch, felt the entire time he was ready to take a page from his friend Cilic. Was good to see Murray win his maiden slam, albeit in a ugly fashion.

I was going to reply to your nonsensical rubbish about choking and pushing and ask you whether you'd ever actually played a competitive match in extreme windy conditions and had rallies longer than 3 shots but then I read this **** about the lesser player winning.

You are jus a fool.

I also agree. Congrats to Murray, but I have to admitt I personally did not find it as entertaining as the other 3 slams. Even though the historical value should have made it more epic. It just the play seemed a bit boring to me, anticlimactic I even might say.

Rafa let the 5th set slip away? Djokovic broke him twice. And Nadal only played one bad shot in the 1st of those breaks. That's not uncommon in their rivalry, as both players break each others serve regularly.

Simpletons only go by the scoreboards. If he was 4-1 up and lost the set to then lose the match, it immediately means he let it slip away, never-mind anything the other player did.

Nadal was up ONE BREAK. Wow, big shock that the best returner in the world would break back in the 5th set. I mean, what were the odds that Djokovic would not break Nadal's serve in the 5th set, on Djokovic's favorite surface?

New to tennis much?

I've just been watching highlights of the USO final and I've changed my mind about how to place it vis a vis the other 3. It's not nearly as bad as some on here are making out. The last 3 sets were the best because the wind had died down and was no longer much of a factor and there were just some incredible rallies, shotmaking and retrieving from both players.

So my list is:

1. The AO (both the Djokovic-Murray semi or Part 1 and the Djokovic-Nadal final are the two best matches played this year IMO. Also it was the only one not to be affected or interrupted by bad weather conditions).

2. The USO (Djokovic-Murray Part 2. Not quite of the same calibre as their AO semi or Part 1 largely because of the windy conditions. But after the first 2 sets, the wind was no longer a significant factor and some highly entertaining tennis followed).

3. The FO (also affected by bad weather and interrupted because of it. Probably hampered Djokovic's comeback after the 3rd set. Not of the same standards as their AO final but had its moments all the same).

4. Wimbledon (started off promisingly with some great exchanges between Federer and Murray, then the weather kicked in,the roof was closed and the whole tenor of the match seemed to change. Murray's level dropped sharply and the rest of the match was a much more one-sided affair).

Nadal should have been up 40-15, but I wouldn't have put it past Novak to come back to break, he's done tougher comebacks before

No. He did not choke. You do not know what happened. Tennis is not as black and white as .. misses easy shot = choke ... no ... get this rubbish out of your head ... you have been indoctrinated by this forum. Djokovic was mixing up shots all over the court and causing Nadal havoc, Nadal had to keep switching up strokes and all and that isn't easy, to technically keep changing footwork and stroke and where you are stroking the ball from over and over again is hard. Its nothing to do with choking. Stop being yet another simpleton.

He was trying to keep the ball deep because Novak's offence when defending is sic.

2012 was quite a unique year - FO wasn't the worst final, and USO was quite easily the worst slam this year, both in terms of quality tennis and the stupid tournament organization.

The AO.
It was played at a consistently high level.
Toss up between the USO and Wimbledon for No.2.
FO secure in last place.

The AO. The overall quality of the whole tournament seemed to be the best as well.

I don't know if I'd say Rafa chocked there, but he did say, comparing it with the USO final, that he was mentally better in the USO last year.

To me Djokovic jus asked way too many questions of the Nadal game on hardcourt and Nadal was unable to come up with the answers. Ofcourse Nadal was going to come closer @ the Australian Open than he did the US Open, the courts are slower @ the Australian Open and Nadal also added led to his racket to make it heavier and allow him a more powerful serve.

There's no way anyone can watch that match back again and tell me Nadal choked, no way.

Personally, I enjoyed the FO final the most. The drama with the rain added an extra twist...

The AO final was a close second, followed by the USO and Wimbledon.

I've seen Nadal miss short 2-handers into the net a lot. It's a common source of unforced error for him.

BTW, it cost him 40-15, and we know 40-15 has never been good enough vs Djokovic. Heck, 40-0 has never been good enough. Djokovic was always going to break Nadal in the 5th set. Has Djokovic ever played a 5th set on hardcourt and not broken his opponent?

Wimbledon was the best.

AO : boring with extremely long rallies decided by errors

FO: the whole rain thing and getting pushed into another day

USO :too many errors from one, too much careful/defensive play from other
