View Full Version : Favorite Unique Player

09-15-2012, 10:02 PM
Ok so I have pretty much discovered that everbody around here has a favorite top player(fed, murray, nadal, ect). What i want to know is who is your favorite player thats not a member of the top 4? Just stating my faves are Almagro and Florian Mayer.

Mayer for me too, i've always liked Tipsarevic, but now he's been around the top 10 for awhile i'm not sure if he counts as much.

Lol yeah he still counts. Especially since you were a fan from the beginning :)

Tomas Berdych.

09-15-2012, 10:41 PM
Berdych: love fearless, power-hitting
Gulbis: he WILL win a slam. You heard it here first :)
Gasquet: love his backhand
Cilic: great guy, just has some mental issues to work out
Harrison: he's a brat, but he's got major potential

Other players who seem to be on their way out: Fish (??), Baghdatis, Davydenko & Nalbandian

Stan "Stanley" Wawrinka

Current - Wawrinka or Dolgopolov

Former - Arazi, Leconte

Really unique - Santoro, Braasch, Gene Mayer.

Nalbandian, but also ever since Roland Garros David Goffin! :)

Both really beautiful style of play in my opinion.

09-16-2012, 01:47 AM
if Goffin manage to improve he's my only hope for a new top stylish player.

09-16-2012, 01:54 AM
Davydenko, Baghdatis, Nalbandian, Malisse, Wawrinka, Goffin, Haas, Kohlschreiber, Tsonga (on grass) and Berdych for his effortless power. I like Delpo as well.

Fabio Fognini. Got great talent!

I agree.. very few stylish players these days... :(

09-16-2012, 02:31 AM
Dmitrov and Goffin.

Ms Nadal
09-16-2012, 02:32 AM
We will see about Goffin. There are no great new talents coming up. Thats for sure.

09-16-2012, 03:40 AM
Lukaš "The Career ender" Rosol.

09-16-2012, 07:59 AM
Fabrice Santoro is my favourite player of all time. I wish it were possible for someone like him to emerge again.

09-16-2012, 08:04 AM
Nalbandian, Baghdatis, Haas. I like what I've seen of Florian Mayer as well.

09-16-2012, 08:22 AM
No clue why I like watching Florian Mayer play...perhaps it's because of his awkward style.

Loved to watch Soderling as well when he was around :(

09-16-2012, 08:35 AM
A few Mayer fans I see :). Wouldn't have expected it.

How old is he BTW?, I don't think I had noticed he existed until rather recently.

09-16-2012, 08:37 AM
I like Dimitrov's style. Well he may not reach top 10 or 20 but when you see his style you would think that he is a one of the top players nowadays. The boy is too much on pressure as they expect too much from him.

Roger Wawrinka

Kohlschreiber, Wawrinka,Haase. 1HBH 4 Life.

Unique Player? Santoro is in there for unique for sure.

09-16-2012, 03:36 PM
Had (still have) a serious crush on Marcos Baghdadis for several years (I'm a lady). Also have to smile whenever John Isner and Nick Mahut play, possibly because of their historic Wimbledon match. On the women's side, I kind of like Marion Bartoli's weird serve.

09-16-2012, 04:03 PM
Rios, Dolgopolov, Dustin Brown!

09-16-2012, 04:18 PM
Doggy Style all day

Dat slice backhand

09-16-2012, 04:18 PM
Dolgopolov really has an interesting game.

09-16-2012, 04:24 PM
hewitt and nalbandian

09-16-2012, 04:38 PM
Yes, agreed about Mayer; also ditto for Goffin, Malisse and Dimitrov. I also like to watch one handers from lesser known players, eg Guillermo García-López

09-16-2012, 04:55 PM
A few Mayer fans I see :). Wouldn't have expected it.

I think he's 29 or 30.

09-16-2012, 05:12 PM
Roddick all the way

09-16-2012, 05:17 PM
Nalbandian, Dolgo, Mahut, Berlocq, Ferrero, Schwank, Baghdatis and Goffin.

09-16-2012, 05:18 PM
Grigor Dimitrov is my favorite player after Federer. The fact that he is Bulgarian, and has a pretty style of game helps out too.

09-16-2012, 05:23 PM
Nadal= awkward looking but one of the greatest fhs of all time. Has produced some of the greatest passing shots ever.

09-16-2012, 05:29 PM
^^^Op was asking for outside of the top 4

09-16-2012, 05:30 PM
Nishikori is my favorite player outside the top 4.

09-16-2012, 05:32 PM
I think he's 29 or 30.

I think he's 28 going on 29.

^^^Op was asking for outside of the top 4

sorry, I've already imagined Nadal being outside the top 10. :(

09-16-2012, 05:43 PM
Lukaš "The Career ender" Rosol.

I actually laughed out loud.. not just saying lol.. so true though

09-16-2012, 06:36 PM
Nishikori because.. he is Japanese.
Cilic because he is a kind guy to his fans.
Baghdatis....since he reminds me of my goofy cousin.
Nalbandian....because of his phenomal ball striking ablity.

09-17-2012, 12:38 AM
Kohlschreiber, Wawrinka,Haase. 1HBH 4 Life.

Guilty of liking almost all players with 1hbh...

Tipsarevic also, short guys with good serves are rare.

Brian Baker has got my eye lately.

Ryan Harrison and Milos Raonic because they both believe in coming to the net. Always good to see.

12-21-2012, 08:31 AM
2.Kei Nishikori

Flash O'Groove
12-21-2012, 08:37 AM
Fernando Gonzales

12-21-2012, 08:38 AM
Del Potro, Tsonga and recently Jerzhy Janowicz.

12-21-2012, 08:43 AM
Well as my name suggests I liked Santoro before he retired, you don't get much more unique than that. If we're considering current players only then Dolgopolov obviously, I also like Wawrinka and Bozoljac

12-21-2012, 09:18 AM
Tsonga, Monfils, Del Potro and Raonic.

12-21-2012, 09:57 AM
Tsonga for his attacking style
Nalbandian ... well in my opinion he is the second most talented tennis player after federer

vive le beau jeu !
12-21-2012, 01:24 PM
baghdatis, gasquet, gulbis, nishikori, raonic...

12-21-2012, 01:51 PM

12-21-2012, 03:03 PM
Nishikori, mostly because he's Japanese but he seems like a cool guy.
I like Gilles Simon a bit, but not that much.

Used to be a big fan of Berdych and Soderling because I loved the big hitting. But lately not so much, mainly because Soderling has been inactive and perhaps Berdych's arrogance got to me. (or maybe I just got bored of the ball bashing, who knows?)

ETA: Oh and I really like Del Potro, but I didn't think of including him since he's already won a slam and is pretty much well liked in general.

12-21-2012, 03:19 PM
Montanes was mine before, his mental capacity and tactical skill on clay was almost second to none (well Nadal fans, there's a difference in talent). Consistently won titles and beat Federer in a really good match in Estoril (maybe not Federer's best, Montanes played like he'd been touched by God though).

Gonzalez as well, such a flagrant guy alongside his very aggressive game.

Like Florian Mayers too. Met him in NY when he waited for his ride to Flushing. A lot taller than you would think. His coach took pictures of me and him which serves as a good memory of USO/NY 2011.

Winners or Errors

No one likes to watch Stepanek? I find his game rather entertaining and not very mainstream.

12-22-2012, 12:18 PM
I wonder how nadal is going to do when he returns
