Federer Fans, what would you rather have, Federer goes all out this fall winning Shanghai, Paris, Basel, and Season Ending finals to finish the year ranked number one.

Or he only wins Basel, finishes # 2 for the year, is well rested and wins the 2013 Australian Open.

2013 Aussie Open. If he wins it, he would be back to number 1 anyway. It is all wishful thinking tho. No way fed can take another Aussie open with the other 3 guys around

I'd take AO 2013 with a well rested Fed.

He's already tired, and no point jeopardizing 2013 by going all out at this point of the year.

Put up a poll.

Federer is not winning Shanghai, Basel, Paris and WTF in succession nor is he winning the AO so this is all pretty irrelevant.

The second option seems more realistic.

Slams matter more than anything. Thirteen Aussie, no question. He made it back to number one and set the weeks record. All else concerning #1 is just gravy.

He'd need 7 year end #1 finishes to tie with Laver anyway.

The state of the AO plexicushion has put that tournament out of his reach for good. YE #1 would be a fine crowning achievement.

I hope for the indoor sweep!!

Forget Shanghai and Paris, Just win Basel, WTF and Aussie.

I prefer second option btw!

YE # 1 is just a stat. Slams matter more. Go for AO.

No way fed can take another Aussie open with the other 3 guys around

Djoker could be tired (wishful th), Ralph will be rusty at AO, Fed can handle Andy. So he *could* get to the final, maybe even get a W if he's in good shape.

At any rate I'd prefer he's rested and raring to go for 2013, than tiring himself out winning the year end stuff ... "the indoor season and post-USO season is for those who won nothing all the year round" acco to our ******* brethren, lol.

I'm gonna be selfish on this one as I'm going to see him play in London.
He must win WTF12 so I can witness it live

I want him todo the indoor sweep he will still get a month and a half off which is good enough

I think I'd rather see him end 2012 as #1. At this point I don't really mind his losses in slams since he's achieved so much already, but I also feel he can still win an individual tournament as he gets older. He did it at Wimbledon this year, with some inspired play and some good fortune coming his way.

The year end #1 requires a consistency that will get harder and harder to maintain as he gets older though.

He'd need some good fortune though. Basel and the WTF will be big priorities for him, I'm not so certain about Paris.

A Slam matters 10 times as much as an YE #1.

There's no guarantee he can win the Aussie Open even if he is well rested. Look at what happened to him at this year's US Open. He was ostensibly well rested after Fish pulled out, then got blown away by Berdych. I will prefer him to try to win anything he can get hold of at this point in his career. Of course he doesn't have to play Shanghai plus all the indoor tournaments, just play those he considers important and hope Djokovic fumbles.

Yeah, it's pretty hard for Roger to win the event now the court has been slowed down so much. I just wonder why the Australian Open organizers don't go - "well, let's just go all out and turn this into a clay event. We have been wanting to have the slowest Grand Slam event - let's make it happen!"

I'll take the AO.
18 majors is a lovely number.

Whatever Fed does is already enough for me, just the way He plays is already a pleasure to see.

I'd prefer the AO over year end number 1.

But what this Federer fan would like to see most of all is Federer beat Nadal in the French Open final.

It should have happened in 2006, or 2007, or 2010.

But I now know it will never happen.

Fed needs a rest ..

I'd take him resting and not winning the AO, if that means he can compete for the other majors in 2013.

Id rather see him go out with a bang the rest of the year. I feel AO is prob his worst chance at a slam now(yes even more than the FO) Id finish strong then take a long break before the AO.

Option number 2, no contest. It is pointless for Federer to chase the YE number one IMO. What for?

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. Nadal is the only guy who can definitely beat Federer at the FO. Djokovic-Federer is 50-50. Anybody else will likely not be too much trouble. But at the AO you're looking at 3 players (Djokovic, Nadal, Murray) who, at worst, have an even chance of beating him.

What other 3 guys? Borg is retiring due to bad knees, as he puts it. :p

Will Djokovic, Federer, Murray be playing the AO? Last I heard they were boycotting it. Nadal will play it, as he's not in the ATP Player Council. But the rest of the top 4?

AO but I don't think he has a good chance of winning there. Then again, people were saying grass became Fed's weakest surface and look what he did this year at Wimbledon. :)
