Fed will crush injured rafa

Don't forget, team Nadal has announced that Nadal will never again use 'band-aid' solutions. That means Nadal will only play when 100%. That is why we are seeing a prolonged break since Wimbledon. Whoever plays Nadal from now on, plays the real thing, not an abbreviated version.

Nadal easily, and I say this as a Fed fan.

If they played it would be in a Semifinal or Final most likely indicating that Nadal is healthy and confident enough to compete. No matter what form Federer is in, he'll eventually mentally collapse as we saw in the AO12 semifinal where he was the better in form player until the second set.

don't forget that rafa is the king of excuses. I could see him ducking every fast court season from now on due to "injury."

If Nadal is fit and has played a decent schedule in the lead-up to the AO then I think he takes this.
It's a poor match-up for Fed on a slow court and those damned AO courts are dead slow unfortunately.

Disclaimer: I am a Fed fan.

Rafael Nadal. Every single time. When will people get that drilled into their heads? 8-2 in slams, no wins against Rafael Nadal since Wimbledon 2007 (when Nadal was still learning to play on grass). 2-0 in hard-court slams. Nadal in 4 sets at the most. (Federer to possibly win a 7-6 set as he is not capable of pushing Nadal to five sets in the slams anymore.)

When people decline in tennis, they start losing to people they should be winning against.

Not going to happen with Nadal vs Federer. It's always going to be Nadal who pulls out the win. Every time.

The overwhelming poll option was Federer in 4. Given that a lot of people probably voted Nadal in 4 after the match had finished, just goes to show how wrong TW's predictions (on the whole) tend to be.

If Nadal reaches the final and plays against Djokovic, it'll be another standard Nadal win in 4 sets (like USO 2010). Nadal has closed the mental gap between himself and Djokovic (see AO 2012 final), since he then went on to destroy Djokovic three consecutive times (plus at AO 2012 he has the golden opportunity to bring the H2H to a staggering 20-14, mirroring the Sampras-Agassi H2H, and it's widely believed that Sampras dominated Agassi on the whole).

Nadal - Even with low confidence, Nadal has a huge match-up advantage which almost always results in Fed breaking down in best of 5

I do think it will be like their last two meetings (Nadal in 4 sets). In both matches, Nadal won a 7-6 set, and Nadal won a one-sided set (6-1 at Roland Garros 2011, 6-2 at AO 2012).

I didn't think of that, good point. If Nadal wins he'll lead Federer 3-0 in hard-court slams. That's astounding considering Federer's hard-court resume.

Are you kidding me? If Nadal can go deep enough in the AO to play Fed, Nadal will beat him in a similar fashion to this year's AO (maybe worse). Not to mention the fact that the AO surface suits Nadal exceptionally well against Fed.

Sad to see that the poll is nearly even right now loool.

In the AO 2012 SF poll, Federer led by a significant margin (the most popular option was "Federer in 4"). Just proves that TW are terrible at making predictions.

I enjoyed the 2012 meeting because Federer won the first set, so it made it interesting. Nadal is like a time-bomb and you wait for him to explode (fist-pump) and take over the match. I was pretty sure it was happening at some point, but there was still suspense because we weren't accustomed to Federer winning the 1st set.

I would say Federer in this situation, because I think Nadals going to need to get some playing time under his belt first. One of the toughest things about being out from an injury is to be fresh again, once getting back into the tournaments. Now I suppose it also depends on exactly when he is back as that gives him more time playing. No matter how good one is, time away from an injury has an adjustment period.

Fed would probably edge out a win but only just. Nadal will be rusty, this is a guy that needs matches under his belt to get him going. Not to mention we have NO idea what's going on with Rafa's injury right now. Look what happened last time Rafa got injured and had to sit out for an extended period, didn't play anything for a month and a half and needed a whole four months to get back into ANYTHING resembling his old self. And this was Rafa at his prime; who knows what 6 months of zero match play on an older Rafa with more mileage will do to his level of play.

Fed has shown what it takes scheduling wise to peak at the right moment. However, Fed is admittedly exhausted and seems much more disinterested since his loss at the Olympics which is disconcerning. Who knows how this will carry over into the latter stages of the season where he's historically done well. A crappy indoor season will probably hit Fed hard confidence-wise going into 2013 then, who knows to be honest. Fed and Nadal tend to peak for slams and generally do very well anyway. It'll be close, but Fed wins in a tight match.

Nadal didn't do anything meaningful in 2009 after returning. He took more than 4 months to recover. Not till MC 2010 did he look decent.

Nadal will face Fed not before semis. He will reach that stage only if he is in good form, else he will be bumped out.

I think Nadal will win, but only because he exploits Fed's 1 handed BH. Lesser players than Fed like Ferrer or Murray can take out a less than 100% Nadal.

Federer, Nadal will be underdone.

6-1 6-3 6-0
09-21-2012, 01:20 AM
So how is it that Federer has beaten Nadal on 10 occasions?

Since Wimbledon 2007, in the slams (where it counts):

Roland Garros 2008: Nadal d. Federer in 3 (Federer won 4 games)
Wimbledon 2008: Nadal d. Federer in 5
Australian Open 2009: Nadal d. Federer in 5
Roland Garros 2011: Nadal d. Federer in 4 (including a 6-1 set)
Australian Open 2012: Nadal d. Federer in 4 (including a 6-2 set)

So wherever they next meet, Nadal will likely win in 4, with Nadal winning a set 6-1, 6-2 or perhaps 6-0. Though from this current trend, a Nadal win in 3 sets wouldn't surprise me either.
