I'd say 305-306mm unstrung.

for Nole is that 32.5cm or 33 cm balance? Should be 330mm.

Nole's racket is measured strung.
To the dgoran's comment -- yes, looks like he's using the Pro stock of the MG Radical MP painted in the Speed. Strung flex of 60.

THat picture where he compares it to the retail speed -- what is the length of the retail speed, 27.5? I assume Novak is using the standard, 27", length?

Almagro's racquet has the matt finish of the 500. The Tour has that glossy chrome pj. Very interesting.

Great pics though, cheers.

Why is one of Nole's racket LONGER than the other one ?

movdqa
09-28-2012, 09:10 AM
Fantastic post - nice knowing the flex now.

The 358 grams is a a few grams off from previous, known measurements but I noticed that the racquet is on the machine without the dampener which would account for that. So Djokovic essentially uses a tgk231.something.

movdqa

On the length of the middle racquet looking longer than the one on the top - I think that they aren't parallel with the butt end of the middle frame further away than the 12:00 positions making it look like the middle one is longer at both ends.

I just checked TW specs and it says 27 inches for YT IG and YT speeds but I thought that stock was 27.2 inches.

Why?! Hmmm...one racket is measured unstrung, 16g lighter, 1.5cm more HL.
Therefore, the SW will most likely be MUCH lower...

18x20 is 27".

I did not even think that there is 18x20 which is ND version.

Nico would have a hard time adjusting his forehand with a higher swingweight.
His FH is the definition of whippy.

Almagro's racquet, strung + overgrip should be 360+ grams, heavier in fact than Nole's racquet.

Nico's swingweight when strung, however, should be about 338 kg*cm^2, whereas Djokovic's is in fact 370. That's 32 kg*cm^2 heavier (for the mathematically challenged out there).

I was sort of joking, but don't be sorry.

It's been thoroughly established that Nole's personal racquet does not come from the retail Speed mold he endorses, but rather the Microgel MP mold.

Supposition has however, been that he uses a custom layup which is very flexy, with a RA in the low 50's. We now know that his RA is actually 60, the same as the retail Microgel MP (according to racquettech). Ergo, it's not too much of a stretch to assume that the Microgel MP is the closest frame you can buy to Nole's. With this knowledge in mind, I was kidding that all the fanboys out there would scoop up some MG mp's since they're cheap and readily available.

The MP is flexy and low powered. Somewhat of a wet noodle unless lead is added to give it some more pop. The pro is heavier and a bit harder to move around, imo. But it has more power and spin.

Is it my eyes or does the beam width on Almagro's racket look even and thinner than the 500T?

Anyone know what frame that is because I can't see any lead that makes it so heavy?

Djokovic's frame weighs 358g strung with a balance point of 32.5 cm headlight.

Are you sure about the balance point?

Balance should be around 33.0cm, don't forget the dampener(2grams) and the fact that this picture, isn't clear enough about the balance point.

According to Fabfed pics, the balance is ~33.0cm.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I think that marin Cilic is also playing with microgel rad TGk 231 something (16*19)

dgoran
10-10-2012, 07:43 AM
Looking at the flex numbers I am actually convinced that Nole is using lm radical tour without lm ridges which had strung flex in low 60

Mg radical flex is in high 50s

Keep in mind that flex numbers taken above we're from strung racquet.

In comparison almagro a racquet is 60 unstrung so his racquet is softer than noles. It's probably 56-58 strung. This also makes me believe that it's not hot melt 300g but custom layup of the same mold since if I remember correctly hot melt 300g had flex of 64 unstrung

There's been a ton of Cilic's frame for sale on the string forums over the last year or two in YT and IG paintjobs. You can go there to look at the pictures, specs and prices.

According to racquettech (USRSA) the STRUNG flex for MG Rad mp is 60 RA. They list the LM as 63.

Some more food for thought: we know where the lead is on Nole's personal racquets, but unless there are multiple layers of it under the bumper, neither the Microgel nor the Liquidmetal will make his spec. It's a custom layup, IMO.

I think we need to know the weight of the hairpin of the MG Radical MP. We can then add the pallets, grip, overgrip, lead and strings and assume the difference is silicone. It should add up.

Big John
10-10-2012, 04:28 PM
I posted this one the Pro Stock 101 (Head) discussion..

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Djokovic would be using the TGK 231.1, Microgel Radical MP mold in flexy form, around 60 flex, tight pattern?

The 231.2 is also tight pattern but is stiffer, more like a pt57e in flex. Was used by Chardy and Casey Dellacqua. Has much more pop but feels quite different to the 231.1, a little like the difference between a pt57a and a pt57e? Plays a bit like an uncapped pt57e in my opinion, quite liked it.

The 231.3 is the open pattern flexy version used by Cilic. Could be same layup as the 231.1 but in 16 19, so around the 60 flex mark?

movdqa
10-10-2012, 05:10 PM
Sounds like a reasonable assumption. Anyone have the hairpin stats on a 231.1?

movdqa
10-10-2012, 05:36 PM
Vidda has two Cilic frames available without silicone and lead that weigh 285 grams (10.05 ounces). If we assume that the 231.1 weighs as much as the 231.3, then the pro stock version should be around 11 grams lighter. The question is could Djokovic's setup be done with that lighter hairpin? Anyone have one?
