View Full Version : How is Ferrer still in the top 5?

It just amazes me that he's still in the top 5. He's definitely maxed out his abilities as a tennis player, and when looking at the top 8, he stands out more than the others because he simply doesn't have that booming serve or super powerful groundies. His forehand is awesome, but that serve is probably the worst in the top 20?

Consistency. He's been to the Quarters or better of 14 tourneys this year, even though he hasn't peaked in the big events he still remains more consistent than the guys from 6-10 are.

"How is Ferrer still in the top 5?"

Because 5 titles + QF or better in slams = lots and lots of ATP points

Ferrer is the new Davydenko, albeit with less skill on hardcourt (duriog Davy's peak years Davydenko owns Nadal on Hardcourt) and about equal skill on clay.

I think that David is a better claycourter than Davyd.

Ferrer is just like nadal who does not have a big serve except one is left hander and lucky to win slams :)

A week or so ago Ferrer was tied with the most wins on tour this year. Get a clue, OP.

Davydenko's wrist injury cost him.

Peak performance davydenko is better.
Davyd has 2 RG semis and 2 RG quarters. In 2005 Davydenko had a 5 set thriller Semi that went down to the wire vs Puerta.

David has 1 RG semi and 1 RG quarter.

So in the end they are about equal on clay.

Because Ferrer is a really good tennis player.

He made 2 SF and 2 QF at the majors this year, who has done better than that other than the top 4? His footwork is phenomenal and he's rock solid off of both sides, with his forehand being a great shot. He's also probably one of the top 3 returners on tour right now.

Ferrer is in trouble. Rafa said he's keen on playing less hardcourt events and MORE clay events, which may include the 2 South American events Ferrer won this year.

Ferrer is 3-3 with Nadal on HC. Not ownage, but given the difference of success, quite an interesting record.

Tied with whom? He is second in the number of titles won this year with 5. Federer currently heads the list with 6.

Daveeed is a better claycourter than Kolya. Look up his Golden Slam record for the past few years, and his results at the big clay Masters - he's in a lot of finals with Rafa in Europe.

Tied with Fed, at 61 wins a piece I believe. This probably isn't the case anymore. Djokovic has surely taken the lead.

How is Fed still in the top 2??

Ferrer has had the best season of his career this year. I'm not a huge fan but the guy has been killing it this year, no question about how/why he's there

Davy's change in racquet from Prince to Dunlop didn't help him either. You could see the loss in confidence and its slowly recovered when he went back to his original racquet but he's slightly off on the timing.

Too bad, in his prime Davy was such a great striker of the ball...

Ferrer does a nice job of hitting on the rise especially on the cross court backhand. Would love to see him hit it flatter on the down the line like Novak and attack more...

Ferrer is tough as nails, and seems to have avoided paying heavy prices for small injuries, or big injuries.
Like a Chang, who was 2 for a year, or even a Connors, just tough and doesn't beat himself.
The Monfils/DelPo/Tsonga/Sod's are constantly bother by physical injuries.

Ferrer is great from the baseline, which is key in this era.

His results are better than Berdych and Tsonga.

Im wondering how the heck he got there anyways.. His talentless and skill-less with NO weapons whatsoever. At least some of the past questionable top 5-10 guys had some freakin weapons in their arsenal. This guy has NONE

Brilliant movement, early ballstriking and return almost equal to Djokovic. Not bad IMO.

Ferrer's record against players ranked lower than him this season and the players he should beat has been excellent. To reach the quarters or better at all 4 slams and win 5 titles is very good going indeed.

Ferrer is one of the biggest fighters I've ever seen on a tennis court. The only player I've seen who I would definitely rank as a bigger fighter than Ferrer is his fellow Spaniard Felix Mantilla.
