It's not his best part of the season, anyway, so he'd be doing the right thing resting up and getting back to a 100% so he can come back strong next year.

Doesn't matter, all it means it that Nadal will be the most rested and least fatigued when it comes to the 2013 Australian Open. And if Nadal is that rested, no reason he can't go in a similar 2010 run, this time winning all 4 slams.

Unlike you, who bend over for Nadal and no one else, some forum members care about players other than their favorites and the sport itself. But I understand how that can be a difficult concept to grasp for you.

As much as I would like nadal to achieve something like that I doubt it will happen, especially in 2013, it took him a long time in 2010 to start winning tournaments and nadal himself said it will take him some time to adjust when he returns.

Rafa not returning in 2012 doesn't surprise me, it would be silly for him to play in the WTF or DC without that much practice and competitive match experience having been out of the game for a few months now. It was Uncle Toni who said that he might play WTF oh yeah he also said nadal would play the DC semi, he seems more optimistic than rafa tbh

They could have used a better picture of him :|

This part is interesting: "It has been very, very tough for me because I feel that my knee didn't improve in the right way ... but the last couple of weeks the improvement in my knee is something that I can really feel."

He only says it once he's felt real improvement.

By that logic, Soderling would be even more rested than Nadal, and would snatch Nadal's RG title.

I am a Federer fan - I'll admit it. But, let's interject some touch of reality into this discussion. Winning a major championship is the goal of all the ATP players and it is not easy. Even the top 4 - Federer, Djoko, Murray and Nadal - have real challenges when they are in top tournament form. The odds of anyone in the top 4 winning a major without at least 8 weeks of serious preparation and 2 to 3 preparation tournaments is very, very slim. If Rafa returns to near full health, begins to practice in earnest in December or January, maintains his health through the winter and spring, and plays 3 or 4 tourneys before Roland Garros; Rafa has a very good chance of winning RG. But, I think his chance of winning the Australian Open is extremely low. I think it would be low for any of the big 4 if they were in his situation.

I must admit to getting more and more nervous the longer he stays away. It's now been 4 months since he last played and there don't seem to be any reassuring statements about him coming back anytime soon, just a few vaguely hopeful hints.

I'm beginning to accept that it is highly unlikely he will return this season. I think January 2013 is the earliest time we can expect to see him re-emerge onto the scene. But we can only speculate on what kind of shape he will be in if and when he finally does re-appear. After all, a 7 month absence from the tour is bound to take its toll.

Nadal has no chance in hell of ever having a 2010 season ever again. He was only 23-24 and had a clear hurdle to winning Slams because Djokovic and Murray were non-factors. Now in 2013, Nadal is attempting his umpteenth comeback at nearly 27 and this time trying to take on the new Djokovic and Murray along with a much stronger field of Del Potro, Raonic and Tsonga. Nadal is older, not better. He's going to be facing a completely different level of competition in 2013. Nadal prior to 2011 never had somebody stomp him so badly and routinely, match after match. Basically many younger players are much more confident now against this aging and injury-prone Nadal.

Newer, younger warriors are now on the tour. And they are officially in their PRIMES. As I said, Djokovic and Murray were non-factors in 2010. They weren't ready to step up. Now they have. Nadal is going to be trying to beat Grand Slam champions who are in their primes. A younger and stronger Nadal hasn't won anything off clay in 2 years. This aging version of Nadal with damaged knees and declining confidence is going to be facing a whole new level of competition.

It's all fun and games until Nadal wins 18 slams.

Nadal is the only male player in world history to win 32 consecutive matches spanning over clay, grass and hard-courts, all in a calendar year.
And Nadal holds the record for most consecutive tournaments won on clay, grass and hard-court.
And Nadal holds the surface streak record (81).

Yep, grass is definitely Djoko's worst surface. He was very lucky to make that final in the 1st place (he would have been crushed by Fed). What horrible bad luck for Rafa last year. He should have won the 2 slams off hard. Just terrible circumstances.
