When a player beats many different opponents in finals do you think this illustrates a weak or strong era?

It seems amazing to me that Federer played a different opponent in all of his 5 U.S. Open final wins as well as of his 6 ATP Tour World Finals. I am not sure if this shows how weak the era has been that another player wasn't consistent enough to reach more than one final at the tournament to play him again or if it shows how strong the era has been with so much parity behind "the big four."

I think in this case it mostly shows how long Fed's been at the top. I mean, it makes sense that you play different people in 2003/2004 than in 2010/11.

Clearly indicates a strong era like the eighties. That there were so many different strong candidates who could make finals.
Either that or the player in question is good enough to win in any era.
