View Full Version : Is it right for Foderer playing in Paris? I think so

Paris Yes, Paris No.

I think that Roger would be better playing in Paris.

It is not because he needs to defend his points, he won't finish the season as world no.1, but because Djokovic had a horrible draw and Federer's is not that bad (at least for the first 2 matches).

So getting some points here would help Roger to have a chance to regain the world no.1 (after he will lose it in a couple of weeks time) in Melbourne.

Here some analysis and the draw.

Tough draw for both.

Fed and Murray in the same half, Djoker has gotten the easy half again.

Fed's draw is the worst he can get. Berdych QF and Murray SF. Before that, doesn't necessarily matter much.

Right or wrong, Foderer playing Paris sure has created a lot of fodder for debate.

Simon - Nishikori - Berdych - Murray - Djokovic is about as bad as it gets for Roger (while Nadal is out), but sometimes bad draws don't unfold the way you'd expect .
Could end up being Baghdatis - Paire - Seppi - Monaco - Raonic, with Djokovic going out early. :)

Still, I have a funny feeling Roger only plays one or two matches maximum in Paris (as was the norm for a lot of his career), or skips it altogether with his sights on London.

I don't think Federer will make it past the semifinal round, Murray has his number at the moment.

he is not anyway favorite so he should be able to play as freely as he can and do not worry about title that much but give it a try 8-) still better than not playing at all, if he loses early he can have his rest anyway.

I don't think Fed will even bother with this draw, really.

That is what I thought too, especially if he plays the Basel final. But the lure of the year end #1 ranking may just get the better of him and he may show up in Paris, you never know. That way he will have at least tried.

he has tried, at the US Open (where even a semi would have given him a good shot at this moment) and Shanghai.

Expect another Federer World Tour Final 2009, maybe.

I tend to agree with your prediction. Fed will make the semis but will most likely lose there.

Federer has always scheduled brilliantly but I think this time he's going all out trying to get the big prize.

What week will he lose #1 by do you think?

Monday Nov 5th - when his 1500 WTF points drop off. Roger will be 2nd seed at the WTF.

Looking at how the no 1 seed (Federer) gets drawn with the no 3 seed (Murray) I think Fed would do better with the 2nd spot. I'm sure when Federer drops to no 2 the ATP will change its mind: "that's enough, look what we've done? let's put the no 2 and 3 seeds together in one half"

Even though you're not paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you, eh mate. ;)

I think that's the least of his worries, but I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out, although I expect him to play.

I rather suspect that many more people would figure that at 31, he doesn't want to play back to back to back weeks. Were Basel not just before Paris and WTF, I'm sure he wouldn't have been playing a 500 tournament just before Paris

I have read here that Forget said Federer will play in Bercy because he booked the hotel...

A bit laughable as he can always cancel the reservation!!!
