Marat Safin has mentioned that he was treated with injections of his own blood to speed his recovery. It looks like it was successful, he recovered 3 times faster.

It does make sense - tendons/ligaments don't heal because they are avascular (no blood supply). So here is the blood fro you.
The other positive side effect might be similar to prolotherapy, which stimulates tissue healing by slightly irritatiing it.

I agree that it sounds more like prolotherapy since the injected blood wouldn't contain a lot of oxygen (required for healing) or other healing factors.

HBO also works for speeding healing to areas of limited blood flow.

I am not sure he did the right thing coming back this quickly.
