View Full Version : The benefits of training your left hand
I have heard that you should train your (opposite) hand to improve your two hand backhand. What are the benefits of this? :)
Balances out your body, so you don't look like RodLaver.
Righttie 2hbh is almost a old school lefty forehand, so replication can't hurt.

A lot of problems in the 2hbh come from overswinging with your forehand arm. If you are basically hitting a onehanded backhand, while holding on with the off arm, you will tend to open the shoulders too early, hit across your body, finish too early, etc. making it difficult to have any power or to hit down the line. By focusing on the bh-side arm (the lefty forehand), you tend to better hit through the ball and avoid the common mistakes. I like to practice some while holding the racquet with just the thumb and index finger of my right (forehand-side) hand to minimize the involvement of this arm.
