View Full Version : Racket Spinning in Hand at Contact
Sometimes I have the problem of my racket spinning in my hand when I make contact with the ball. I use tourna grip. This only happens with tourna grip. When I use Wilson Pro the spinning doesn't happen because the Wilson Pro is very tacky. But I like Tourna better. Does this happen with peope that use Tourna? Or do I just need to grip the racket tighter?

You might need a more tacky grip, like you said.
But super light racquets and racquets with too small a grip for you are more common causes of it.

The grip size is probably wrong. Maybe you need to put on a Tournagrip, then another on top of it to make your grip fatter. It shouldn't be a matter of tack...

Zorg,
If the racket is turning in your hand you are not hitting the sweet spot....That is why it doesn't happen everytime...

Zorg,
I agree with theace21, using a more tacky grip probably won't solve your problem. It you use a more tacky grip while still have the racket spinning problem, you will end up with a lot of blisters on your palm.

Yep I agree there.
Always aim to hit the sweet spot. Otherwise... go do some weight training or utilize a longer backswing and swing.

Hey Zorg, i have 2 pd+ , one with tourna grip and one with wilson pro grip. with my pd+ and tourna grip that thing that happens to you happens exactly to me. I use a semiwestern grip, and in when i finish my stroke it ends up to be a western grip. This never happens with a wilson pro grip.

it happesn to me when i mishit (especially on volleys)
i found if you hold the grip more in the middle than towards the bottom, it will have a harder time moving.

That's a bad sign that you're missing the sweet spot a lot. The ultimate cure is to fix that.
As others have said, a bigger grip might help, because this is more likely to happen when the grip is too small. A heaveir racket head is less affected by off-center hits. The tacky stuff I can't stand, but if you don't mind, go with it. Or just keep a towel handy. Also, it might help to spread your fingers a little. In fact, you shouldn't be clutching the racket too hard. That can actually make matters worse. Partly by causing the off-center hits.

Yeah, when a racquet torques like that, it's because you're hitting off-center causing force to be exerted in an area that'll twist the racquet. Also, a tacky grip might help, but that might end up just tearing apart your hands.
