As far as losing weight, drinking water with your meals also helps prevent overeating since it serves to fill your stomach. As for tennis, drinking cool water and other fluids during play helps regulate your body temperature, and helps replace lost fluids during play.

Just remember that too much can be as bad as too little water. Beware hyponatremia.

I have heard of hyponatremia before, does anyone know how much is too much?
Actually, I would have thought it was a load of crap except I first read about it in a medical journal/magazine while waiting at the doctors ...

My pharmacist brother was asked by a customer if drinking soft water can kill you.

How much depends on the person and the activity. You'd be surprised how many marathon runners suffer from hyponatremia from drinking too much during races.

Hyponatremia is water intoxication. When you sweat you lose sodium. Then when you get thirsty and drink water, there will be a lower concentration of sodium in your blood. Sodium is needed for water distribution, and for our muscles and organs to funtion properly.
Fatigue is a more mild effect of what can happen.
A Coma is a very severe case.
