View Full Version : Another suggestion for the new board...
First of all, I really hesitate to ask for anything more because you guys have done so much already, and been really great. But, if it isn't a big problem, I really miss being able to see which threads I've opened. On the old broard the thread was marked as unread (new posts = total posts), but now if you open the discussion, all threads are marked as read when you go back - After logging out.
Thanks,
Cynthia

there is that little yellow flag that tells you which threads you've read, even the individual posts have a yellow flag, if u click on it, it will lead u straight to the newest post, but something like the "subscription" button and "check messages" button would be nice like we used to have, i hope they are working on it cuz i've been asking for it since day 1 of this new board

I'm not sure what problem you are having. If you go back to the Rants & Raves forum after reading this post by clicking on Rants & Raves above the first post, then this thread will be marked as read, but others will not. You do not have to log out. Similarly, you can use the "Jump to:" function at the bottom. If you are going back by using the Back button on your browser, then it will not update the list of threads to show that you have read this one.
In my case I log on and off the board a few times a day. What the new baord does is mark all the threads in a section as read when you log on again if you opened the section the last time you were logged on.

Yeah - Cypo's description above is accurate. That's what happens with this new board. All I can suggest is that you don't log on if you're not posting. Then at least you can keep your 'official visits' to a minimum, and it'll screw up the designation of new posts somewhat less.
While we're at it, does anyone miss the numbers of the posts? I quite liked to know that I was reading "Post #5 of 12", or that my post was "#11 of 15". Bringing back the numbering would be good, as well, so we can reference other posts - as in "Good point you made in post #8...". And I don't suppose there's any reason to object to bringing back the numbers...
And how about the option to view all posts in a thread on ONE PAGE? Anyone miss this? It beats clicking off 5 or 6 pages, that's for sure...

I have seen other boards that use standard bulletin board software (for example, http://boards.straightdope.com, where I am also amarone) have a post number, so I hope that is an option that can simply be turned on.
The number of posts on a page is rather low. Again, I have seen boards using more, so maybe that is an option also.
I would like to be able to include a link to a specific post. I haven't found out how to do that. The address of this thread is http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/viewtopic.php?t=798 where t=798 means that it is thread 798. Deuce's post is post 4091. I can use http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/viewtopic.php?p=4091, but that gets you to the beginning of the thread, not right to the post itself.
