View Full Version : Specs on racquets?

Are there any certain specs that make a racquet better for the Baseline cause im looking for a new racquet and I play from the baseline 8 out of 10 points? What specs should I be looking at? Im a 4.0-4.5 player. O and I've also wondered.... are all of the Yonex racqeuts you carry SL or UL or what are they?
Thanks for all help

I also play from the baseline and favor a heavy racquet. I find the extra weight a huge benefit in keeping the ball deep. I also find the extra weight takes some of the work out of long points. Once I get the racquet moving, my work is done. Like many players who hit with a semi or full-western, I tend to hit high in the stringbed, so weight my racquets at 10 & 2 to bring the sweetspot up a little.
We have both SL and UL Yonex racquets here. However, the late 2003 and 2004 models have a "G" before the grip size instead of the UL SL designation.

Im still a little confused with Yonex racquets. For instance could i get a Yonex MP tour-1 90 at UL or does it come in SL only. What Yonex Racquets come in UL and which ones come in SL or can you get any model in SL or UL.
Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

What would be some good Baseline Bashing racquets? I think after you all are done testing the RDX 500 im going to decide on three to demo? I was looking at demoing the MP Tour-1 XF, Mid, and Either RDX 500 Mid or MP tour-1 Midplus.
Thanks for all your help.

I called Yonex and depending which grip size you get, you will get a UL or SL. UL are slightly lighter racquets and come in the 1 and 2 size grips. Size 3 and up grips are SL, and are the weight we use to measure specs. For instance, if you order an MP Tour-1 in a 3 1/4 grip (G 2), you would get a UL racquet. Get a 4 1/2 and you would get the SL weight.

Whats the weight of a UL MP Tour-1 comaperd to the SL version?

We only supply specs for the SL versions. Our demos only go as small as four and three-eights, which are also SL, so I cannot give you specs for a UL.
I suggest calling Yonex at 800-44-YONEX. I have found their customer service department to be excellent.

Is there anyway i could demo a UL MP tour-1 90 since its what i would probably get? If not its okay I could use the extra weight to build up more.

TW only has demoes in 4 3/8 and 4 1/2 which are both SL.

Chris you said that you put lead tape on your MP Tour-1 90... how many grams to you put at each spot and do you put some on your handle to counter balance it and let it stay head light? Also how many points head light is it after you get done adding all this lead tape?
Some one also told me that if you add lead tape to the handle that it will pull the sweet spot down??? I didnt think it would do that? Am i or this other guy right?

I can't recall how much weight I added and had to add different amounts to each to reach an identical final spec. My final spec for the racquets was 13.4 ounces, swingweight of 340 and a balance of 12 points head light. I added the weight under the grip and at 3 & 9. I also had to add some lead at 12 on one racquet to correct balance and swingweight differences between the two.

Thanks Chris. Well i couldnt do that cause 13.4 is out of my class in weight.
