View Full Version : Anyone have any pros' racquets?

Who's got a racquet that a pro actually played with, maybe even smashed to bits?

I have the super RD Tour that Rios threw out into the crowd when he won the 1998 Lipton.

Then I woke up. :roll:

@wright

Now I KNOW that's a lie! I'm sure he wouldn't do anything that nice!

@wright

Besides, I'm pretty sure he played with the RD Power 10 when he won the Lipton! HA

I've got a Wilson Hyper ProStaff 6.1 that Andy Chirita used to play with...

Oh, you don't know who he is? Well, that's because he's still young
and really hasn't turned Pro yet. But perhaps in a couple of years
I could come back to this discussion... :-)

Alan--
watch the video of the 1998 Lipton final, he chucks his racquet way up into the stands after he wins/becomes #1.

If you dont have the tape, Ill send it to you, I have Rios/Henman as well from the SF, which is amazing. Rios starts s&v at the end of the match, looking way more natural at it than Henman or most s&v players. I think it was to make Henman feel more like crap, it wasnt enough to just beat him 6-0 final set, LOL.

I get that frame confused, Power 10 or Super RD Tour but then Im always confused by Yonex frames. they sound like the names of Strar Wars droids. Yonex R2D2 Ti IG-88 Super Power Long.

@wright
02-27-2004, 08:24 AM
HAHA, that is too funny about the Yonex frames. I'm e-mailing you right now about Rios tapes.

From a pro?? Sometimes they give them to ball kids or other extremely fanatical people.

I've got 4 of Cedric Pioline's Prince Magnesium 90 racquets. I got them about 6 years ago. I loved that frame so much, and couldn't find any anywhere. I tried Pat Cash first - called the president of Tennis Australia, who called Cash in Tahiti or somewhere, then called me back and told me that Cash had none left, but suggested the Prestige Classic 600. Then I called Pioline's agent, and she asked Pioline, who said that he'd give me 4 for free. I paid the shipping. They were pretty used when I got them - one even had a hairline crack. Had red clay wedged in the grommet strips and everything. I got about a year's use out of them before 'retiring' them for good.

I also have Thomas Blake's 300G (James' brother). He broke it by tapping it lightly on a tree after a doubles loss in a Futures tournament. I think I still have it. Maybe not. I did salvage the grip and grommet strip, though.

A friend of mine and I were at the US Open in '05 and we were watching Taylor Dent practice. Taylor missed a few shots in a row and then smashed his racquet on the ground and broke in in about 5 places. My friend asked him if he could have the racquet and Taylor tossed it to him. When I held the racquet it was the heaviest one I've even held. It must have been like 14 ounces.

When I was at tennis camp in Austin we had Roddick make a surprise visit. I used the original Babolat pure drive and broke the strings (back when I only carried two racquets with me). I was sad and said I didn't have a racquet to my coach but Roddick threw me one of his. I didn't get to keep it but he signed signed my hat, racquet, and TENNIS balls. (thought I'd make the tennis part obvious before we got some renegade posters)

BaselinePlaya, oh definitely! As you can see in the picture the black throat part of the racket is totally glossy and not the matte finish like the store bought version. Also, "i Radical" is not on the outside of the throat either. The throat bevels are exactly like my TwinTube or Trysis 260 Radicals. It totally feels like them! Take care!

MichaelChang, the racket does not have any indication of the actual grip size but I am willing to bet it is a 4 3/8. I have not actually measured it in real life. It seems like most pros go for the smaller grips! Take care!

I'm interested to know what the grip shape is like.

I'm guessing it's square like Prince since he used to uses the POG. Plus he uses a semi-western grip. Head's grip shape doesn't go well with a semi-western grip.

Do any of Head's pro players actually use their grip shape?

The interesting thing with this frame is, while there are "FlexPoints" it does NOT have the LiquidMetal Ridges on the inside part of the head. There was also the Midplus with "Flexpoint" but with NO Liquidmetal Ridges on the in side part of the head and with grooves in the throat identical to the PT630.

I don't know if this counts as having a Pro's racquet.
But I've got a TFight 320 that is 28 inches long and has "Exclusive Production Christophe Rochus" and "PT-205-08 (18x20)" printed in the throat area.
I got it brand new, unstrung and with original red TF overgrip.
Grip size is 4-1/4. It also uses grip pallets (like TFight 325) instead of foam molded handle as in stock TFight 320.
Even after replacing the grip with TW leather + Wilson Pro Overgrip, stringing with Gamma Professional 17 and fixing with a red Pete Sampras dampener, the racquet weighs only 321g and balance of 338mm from the butt end!
I have compared this racquet with an off-the-shelf TFight 320. Cosmetically, they are from the same mold and have identical graphics except for the length of the handle.
I've attached some pics.

It sure counts! this was a custom made for Christophe.
I bought it off the big auction site. When it arrived, it was brand new with plastic covering the original PU Tecnifibre grip.
Absolutely no lead whatsoever.
Something tells me that this frame has not really been tweaked and finely tuned for Rochus yet.
It was probably what I'd call a "base" frame made by Tecnifibre for Rochus to send to a customization company to further custom to his exact preferred specs.
That probably explains why it is so light.
But the graphite lay-up is certainly different!
It feels very stable and solid, yet not as stiff as a stock TFight 320.

I had one from a futures player after it was smashed after losing. It was a babolat pure control team, with a small amount of lead at 6 and 12. Felt very light. Threw it out after a few months as I had a good enough look at it. The player's ranking was about 350 with a top ranking of about 270 so no use keeping a nobody's broken frame.

I have a James Blake 300G that he gave me a few years ago, I just put it on the "bay" a few days ago. It's pretty interesting, very heavy, a different string pattern than the normal version and different even from the euro version. Has of course his name painted on the bottom side of the frame on each side, and no markings inside the throat, looks like a paint job but the faux carbon fiber looks pretty real. Check out pics on the bay if you want, item #120307880990. And before the "how do we know it's yours" crap begins, look at my TW username and **** seller id: actennis = dwoodactennis.

I just looked at the photos of the racquet you posted for sale.

James Blake plays with a custom mold delivered directly from the factory without grips or strings which is then highly customized-length,weight,SW, bablance modification etc by a tuner who also adds James' custom made grip.

Hard to tell from the photos you posted. Does your racquet have these features? If your racquet has these features, you should do quite well on your auction. Otherwise, it's not Blake's racquet. It may be his pre-prince mold, but not his racquet if it doesn't have these features.

Well I watched him take it out of his bag in 2004, play two doubles matches with it (one against me) and then hand it to me, so I am QUITE sure it is his and his custom model. He had a bag of 8 just like it and hit with two of them and gave both of them to me and my partner so there is no real inquiry whether it was his or not.

My Pro's Rackets..

A total of 14 Wilson Pro Staff Classic 6.1´s (I know there are only 13 but one's at the stringer) of which 4 with a string pattern of 18x20, the rest has 16x19.
Also, 7 of them are 6.1 si and the others are the normal 6.1's. All have headsize 95 sq. inch and are head-light.
Beam on all the rackets is 20,5. Because they were my dad's, who was a pro, (don't believe me? please tell me, instead of starting a discussion right away) they are custom made, in this case this means that they are more head-light and the PWS is leaded up to a weight of in total 370 grammes per racket.

The other two rackets are 2 Dunlop Roland Garros French Open of a few years ago, strongly modified. Both weigh 320 grammes strung instead of 305 and balance is more head-light. Beam is 21. Headsize of 98 sq. inch. these two are just regular rackets, not pro's.
