If I remember correctly, Dent's motion is pretty similar to Sampras', which I bet has a bunch of clips that can be found.

BTW, Congrats Marius! You have earned a well-deserved 'Legend' distinction. It seems that I'm getting there by becoming a 'semi-pro' yesterday, I believe.

I believe Tennisone.com also has videos of Dent's serve. I don't subscribe to the site, but I'm also pretty sure it has a free one month trial for it. Try out the site, take the free trial, and you can see Dent's serve. You'll have the whole month to decide if you want to keep subscribing, too.

I don't have a tennisplayer.net subscription, but do you have 20 bucks? Get a month of it. I've never heard a single bad review about it.

I would just get a video of one of Taylors matches or tape one of his future matches. The match against Hewitt in this years USO was pretty good. Taylor has an excellent serve, not as smooth or graceful as Sampras. What makes it really frightening is that you know he is coming in behind it, so if you dont get a good return, he will crunch the volley.

His service is indeed modelled after Sampras.

However, there's a small difference:

At the moment when the abs/oblique contraction starts, he raises his right knee up in the air higher than the other players. I experimented with it, and it seems to help in terms of that contraction and generally in terms of power. It also brings you quicker into the court.

But you'll have to decide if you want to adopt his slighly unconventional technique.

Also, check the elevation of his right elbow.

I think the only difference between sampras and dent is the disguise of sampras and his toss.

Sampras' toss was like chute, dent is more like a push.

The only thing better than the last 5000 posts will be the last 10,000 posts.

I really don't care much for Dent's right knee in the air, its funky. Reminds me of Captian Morgan. :)

In that video, is he doing a kick serve?

The only thing that I don't like about his serve is that his tossing arm seems to be kind of, well, funky.

his serve entirely is pretty funky, the right knee and the toss

I tried raising my right knee up whilst serving today and noticed a significant increase in service speed. I might just include it into my routine! :)

Will be studying that video alot. Thanks for posting.

PS: Can someone post a detailed write up of his serve? Key points to take note etc.?

it might also bring you faster to the net.

anyway, it can at least boost you when you're too weak:-)

Dent's motion is the old fashion pre-80's serve motion. Step-over with right leg.

He lands on his right leg.

Sampras lands on his left leg.

So, you still can serve big with the old pre-80's motion. Dent is serving 140's? 150's?

Not true.
He lands on his left leg, notwithstanding his motion with the right leg/knee.

Check the clip posted in this thread (guess by Thanatos), also check any of the clips at tennisplayer.net.

Taylor gets a lot of back bend, knee bend, and pronation. The only strange part of Taylor's motion is his toss which goes up with a bent arm instead of the usual straight arm toss that most pros use. Taylor Dent has a very powerful serve overall and a thick, well endowed girlfriend too.

Powerful, yes... but he needs to work on getting those first serves in. Maybe an inconsistant ball toss is to blame?

Yup. Gives a "boost" when approaching the net after serve.

And yeah, I'm not very strong. I'm around Andy Murray's height and weight. :( Will be hitting the gym soon once my exams end. My target is to get around Paradorn's stats (I'm Chinese).

But what really determines my serve % is... my toss. :(
