Just curious as to what you feel *your* most important thought is while playing. I just want one...

For example, mine tends to be:

That's the same as mine. I find that whenever my game starts going off, it's at least partly because I'm not paying enough attention to the ball.

my thought is "cmon" when im getting ready to hit the ball

or if its gonna be a run down or tough shot, simply "s..t"

"attack" or "move in" to remind myself that baselining isn't my strength, but since few people like practicing against an agressive volleyer, "practice" means baselining.

I wish my best thought was not to have one! If you work at your technique, your physical conditioning, and you rehearse the playing patterns on serve, return, rally, attack, defense, your tennis will become automatic! When that stage arrive, the ball tells you "what to do with me".

"wait for it" especially on my backhand... i'm still developing my 2 hander and i tend to get too far out in front and either shank it or block it... other than it's "stay smooth" especially on serves.

Tactical discipline. I always have to remember that I must stick with my plan A or B, and don`t go for the nice shots, and don`t play tennis that feels good, but plan according to my plan so I win.

Outside of maintaining focus on a gameplan devised for a particular opponent, my my consistent phrase would have to be 'smooth.' This applies to both my movement, head stability and ball striking, regardless of the shot.

If I had to choose one, it would be:

1) Watch the ball, move my feet...

1) do not change direction of the ball unless both feet are inside the baseline.

1) Mix it up...don't let them get grooved.

1) Attack early and often!

4) should i say "cmon" if i win the next point?

5) whos watching me right now?

6) shouldnt have gone clubbing last night to this morning (2 hrs ago)

7) i gotta write that girls number down somewhere before it sweats off my hand

9) hat straight or backwards? which is cooler these days?

I think what I say to myself most often is just, "COMPETE." I have a bad habit of just wanting to have fun and can be very lazy. It is a dishonor to your opponent if you don't try your best.

You got to love the game.

ive got an entire list of things i have to do for every stroke just because it will eventually change into something that will mess up my arm...happened once, will not let it happen again....but it healed in one good week, so im happy :P
