View Full Version : 1.5 backhander and Hawaii's jumping one hand backhand
Not too long ago Hawaii posted "Flashy shots - jumping one hand backhand" on old message board. It sounds very interesting to me. I have a kinda weird backhand for a long time. I have never seen any player hit backhand like me until I read Hawaii's post. I am one hand backhander but I hit exactly the same way as two hand backhander -- my non-hitting hand follows through with hitting hand (looks like hand cuff with hitting hand but does not hold the racket). I hit open stand with right foot lift-off and close stand with back leg(left) kick-off. I am right handed. and some time I hit "jumping one hand backhand". every thing looks like two hand backhand but with one hand eastern backhand grip(1.5 backhander :D ). I don't see onehand backhander have as much shoulders turn as twohand backhander especially for down the line. for onehander non-hitting hand goes to opposite direction (for balance ?). onehander opens shoulders but with less trunk turn, which means less power. I am not sure if I am doing right. it works for me so I keep it. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
Hawaii: try it and hope it works for you too.

Thanks KJ.I'm still working on it and it's getting better, but I wasn't discouraged to find that it's much more physically demanding than the jumper two hander on the body.Basically I'm leaning into the ball more and I'm using it as an approach shot of fslow to medium paced medium depth high balls cross court.I'm also falling away to my left a bit to drive the ball more rather than locking my wrist back to open the face.Right now I'm working on another flashy shot which is more trick than show. It's basically another jumping shot which I hit a drop shot off a big swinging fh or bh or if it's flatter and inside and lower I can rip an inside out slice since the balancing leg(kicking) moves right out of the way of the racquet path and the shoulders open up and making slowing the swing easier.
Ever tried a side spin one hander? I use them on high bouncing shots if I can't hit them on the rise it works well as an attack shot too since you confuse the opponent with the kick-serve like spin. The way to hit it is to try and make contact around shoulder hight and to kind of brush left to right(for righties). Well I guess it's not completely a side to side motion there is some top spin on there as well. If you get it right a fun shot to have.
