Stringing question

Me- 2-Ncode 90's. I have my own stringer (revo 4000). I used PSG 17 @ 63 for a long time. But, it got to where I was breaking a string in a week, then it got to where I was breaking a string in each racket in a week. (breaking a main), I got tired of stringing....

I found some Prince 15L topspin and put it in. So far into the second week and no breakage. It feels ok, its cheap.

My question:

How would putting a 16g gut in the crosses effect feel and or durability?

If I were to put in a 15L gut in the mains and used a 15L Prince as a cross, how would this perform?

Any thougts would be appreciated....

if you weren't breaking crosses you could use 16g. you might notice
a little more pop and a fair bit more spin. you could even use the 17
in the crosses if you desired. if you are stringing once a week you
may as well experiment and you might be surprised at what you
find.

If you are going to experiment with gut, use it in the mains. The mains provide the majority of the feel. You'll get more bang for your buck this way.

You shouldn't need a 15L synthetic in the crosses. 15L Natural Gut is usually a nice playing string too, depending on the brand (there are some really cheap natural gut strings that don't play that well or hold up that well). When I use a nat gut/synthetic combo, I drop the tension in the synthetic by 3 #.
