I'd like to be able to type the number 8 beside any keyboard character I wish without it automatically being converted into an idiotic 'smiley' with sunglasses...

I think you can select the "disable smileys in this message" option when you post, since you're using the full message editor.

Just seeing what happens when using the 'Quick Reply'...

As I figured - the 'default' is to resort to the stupid 'smiley' thing whenever a number 8 is followed by a closing of the parentheses.

...as the 'dumbing down' of this culture continues along its sordid path...
