take back swing

Well.. i saw a rather skilled player yesterday and he had a very akward take back swing. He kinda took it back to the left and above his head, but he got nice strokes.. ever seen this before?

I have a rather high take back, which I'm going to get rid off because I find that it doesn't really add any power, just seems like a waste of time, compared to shorter ones. Its not a big issue but when playing someone with pace it starts to become one. I just found a takeback that felt comfortable for me but when experimenting one I found like Agassi's seemed to feel natural and countinuous, mine was stopped at a point.

I don't think its really helps to have a big backswing, just preference, though I'm sure some research might say shorter is better to an extent.
