I know this discussion belongs to another room, but some people don't go to odds/ends, and I am trying to solve this problem.

Basically I have 1.7 Celeron, 512 ram, 40 giga (~7000 rpm, XP installed, primary, but not booting drive), and 10 giga (slave, booting drive) with ATI Readon 7000 Hydravision (64mb).

Despite the specs, it takes time to open up applications (Winamp, internet explorer etc). Sometimes, it has trouble closing applications. Even screesavers don't run smooth, and skips. Recently I bought rainbow6 3, and the game didn't run smooth at all even though my computer has higher specs than recommanded system. It also takes time to open a folder with 800 mb in

I don't know if it's a poor connection between graphicscard and motherboard, or if I have virus? I am thinking of formatting hd and install everything again. Could it be due to poor cooling ? But I am afraid some of backup files (musics, docs, programs) have virus and will put everything back to origin..

Does anyone know what I should do? 486 should run faster than this...

I think the fact that it takes time to open a folder with 800mb in it is normal. Umm, I doubt that its a poor connection between the graphics card and motherboard. How long have you had the computer? you might want to try defragging the computer, also you might wanna scan for adware/spyware, and as always, do a virus scan. If i think of anything else, ill post it up here.

Spyware my friend... way to many... lagging it... adware is good lavasoft.net but it doesnt pick up everything.. I think thats your case... but what I would is back up the files and just format the heck out of the primary drive.
