I'm really dissapointed at myself. My coach said last week that i've improved and doing well, and during todays session, i completely just sucked. footing off completely volleys and net footwork was lazy, groundstroke form wrong. pulling hand straight up instead of following through. I don't understand. Tennis is so moody sometimes, like, i sometimes play well and sometimes not so much. perhaps you guys can give advice to off days like today.

on the side, i learned to day how to do a jump serve. it goes in 2/10. should i stuck with my normal one until the jump serve gets 7/10 or so?

Always make an effort to improve, like you said you were off and lazy on your net footwork, there is no cure for laziness and that applies on using proper technique on groundies. And you don't jump on serves, its bending your knees and uncoiling to put energy in the ball.

Watch what you eat and drink before you play during your off days. Too much caffeine? Not enough liquids during play? Other distractions like school or girls disrupting your concentration? Not enough sleep the last couple of nights? Alcohol, cigarettes, etc? Not working out or staying in shape, bad attitude or lazy habits creeping in? We all have our sluggish days and you just have to play through them as best as possible and then try to link something you did or didn't do that caused your sluggishness.

Everybody has days like that. If you read my recent posts, just about everyday recently has been a day like that for me. Stop. Take a deep breath. Relax. Start Over - looking for things that might be throwing you off. And as Kevhen says, look for other patterns that might be affecting you physically and mentally.

ok thanks. i kinda slept only a few hours the night before. i'd think i had enough energy though. I guess being well rested to be able to stay awake at the net and to pay enough attention should be important.

PS: about the rocking motion thing, i figured it out naturally and my past coach developed it. my current coach isn't saying anything about my "rocking motion". I grew up with Pete as my hero, so maybe i learned from watching him.:|

Same thing just happened to me today. Everything was off. Wanted to just throw my racket away and smash it to pieces.
