I am experimenting with the 1handed backhand topspin. I am using continental. I have heard there are 2 eastern backhand grip. Could anybody pls explain the difference?

grips can be confusing especially when teaching professionals get them wrong or make up their own way of explaning things. I come from the camp that Mahboob and others come from. I locate the grip based on the index fingers base knuckle. For me it makes it very simple to show grips.

Eastern backhand grip has the base knuckle on the top panel with the racquet face perpendicular to the ground. Their is an extreme backhand grip which places the base knuckle on the bevel behind the top panel. This grip places the thumb more on the underneath the handle where the previous grip places the thumb behind the handle.

The extreme is used for improved topspin but it takes time to learn it.
