I don't have a problem with Dokic returning... she was only 16 when she (or her father) made that desicion. Now that she's back, she better stay back ;)

I think she won't do very well, due to lack of match practise and training.

Man, it's pretty cool to think (as I'm freezing my "kiwis" off up here in N.Y. and you guys are enjoying the first day of "summer" down under) that I can read/engage Aussies thousands and thousands of miles away.

One question though: How in God's name can you crazy "Joeys" hop around and casually bang down one VEGAMITE sandwich after another??? I mean, isn't VEGAMITE some sort of combination of:

5 parts roofing tar
1 part motor oil
2 parts molasses???

Man, I know McDonalds isn't something to write home about...but VEGAMITE??!!!! Just HOW do you guys enjoy that schstuff???!! Ha! regards! :-)

Hey, I'm hanging out for 30 degrees plus with NO humidity. It's been ridiculously hot up here over the last week with the last few days 38, 37, 39 and 34 degrees. Could be manageable if it wasn't so bloody humid.

Anyway, Im looking forward to heading back to Melbourne for the start of the Aus Open. Not overly disappointed with the news of impending withdrawals as I'll be going the cheap option and just buying a grounds pass.

go_nadal,

Melbourne's cooler weather (not in summer though) and very discernible seasons are the reasons why it's the best city in Australia to visit.

Queensland is a great holiday destination but, as regards living up here, let's just say it's a bit too slowwwwwwwwwwww LOL. Give me Melbourne with the restaurants, the parklands, the theatres, the intellectual stimulation, the culture, the trams and good old Aussie Rules any day of the week.

Im not suggesting that it's the best place to visit, it's hardly what you'd call a 'touristy' kind of place, but it's a hell of a lot better to live in than Queensland.

Yours,
Faults and all, I wish I still lived there (apart from during the Commonwealth games lol) :)

I would have to agree I have only travelled to Melbourne once and I can say the experience was very pleasurable unlike the city of Sydney . I was only in Melbourne for a week for the Aus Open and the city was buzzing , nice restaurants clean streets plenty of shops etc etc. I cannot compare the Gold Coast as I have never been , but I think Go_Nadal will back me up on this one , good old Batemans Bay at this time of the year is pretty good , except the beaches get a little to crowded ( I think Batemans Bay in aboriginal means God's Country)

go_nadal,

Can't help it, Aussie Rules is in my blood LOL (guess it goes with being a Victorian). Some of my strongest memories as a child are of walking from the city, through the Treasury and Fitzroy gardens and across to the MCG. Or lining up outside the Junction Oval to get prime seats (behind the goals) to watch Fitzroy (when there was a Fitzroy) play: reserves and seniors in those days LOL. Im only in my early 30's but that does makes me sound ancient lol.

Im probably the only person who really enjoys Melbourne in the winter (and not for the football). I hate the cold but Melbourne is such an 'indoors' kind of town - restaurants, theatres, galleries, bars, etc- that it excels when the weather turns a bit nasty. I think it also makes you appreciate the summer when it does arrive whereas, up here, there's not really any seasons, just one long stretch of 'hot'.

The Gold Coast is one of the least appealing places I've ever lived (was there for my first 18 months in Qld). Even with the beaches it's totally devoid of soul (i think culture was outlawed in the 50's) and most of its beauty has been ruined by developers. Surfers is an absolute dive (very sleazy and a bit like King Street in Melbourne or Kings Cross magnified a thousand fold) Probably not surprising that I've yet to meet anyone from Brisbane who likes the G.C or goes there for a holiday. They all head up to the Sunshine Coast and you've got to think, when the locals avoid part of their state it can't be all that flash.

Yours,
I was hoping to visit Melbourne again in June and show my girlfriend around the old stomping ground. Thankfully, the Games will be done and dusted by then. Planning to go on one of those tours of the MCG and, hopefully, catch a game while we're there (I haven't been to Telstra Dome but its not really the same thing LOL). Then have a short walk across the bridge to the Tennis Centre for bit of a hit.

That whole area - the gardens, MCG, NTC, Batman avenue- is a real marvel that you probably don't appreciate until you're away from it. Two of the world's great sporting venues, two beautiful gardens and a lovely stretch of reclaimed land (can't think of anywhere else that has actually added parkland instead of just slapping down more buildings) all in the one spot. Definately something I want my girlfriend to see.

I was a Telstra Dome resister, but...it's weather-free:). Time for Demetriou to go I reckon. Done some good, but determined to make more changes for the sake of change. Intent on speeding up the game so players can't even take a breath.

yes batemans bay in a nice place to live i like it. but i like my durras beach better than any of the beaches around the bay area eg denams.
and yes there are sooo many people around at the moment its crazy all those stupid canberra tourists (shoobies as i like to call them)
i came home from town yesterday and there was the biggest q goin up the mountain with people from canberra comin down.

AndrewD-
yeh well i never said anything about goin to the gold coast... i would much rather go to the sunshine coast to a place like noosa or somthing....
and on the hole afl to nrl subject, i hate afl with a passion, as does most of my skool mates and friends. i would much rather watch a state of origin game or any game for that matter that watch those cats kicking a ball around and pretending to tackle people.:)

StraightSets

The Telstra Dome will never have the same history or significance as the MCG, but as far as watching a game of footy goes, the atmosphere and the conditions are simply brilliant.

Yours,

Demetriou: second rate player, third rate administrator, first rate moustache (in his North Melb days). Unfortunately, with the passing of Fitzroy, Ive lost a fair bit of my passion for the game. Still enjoy watching it but not like I did when I had a team to support (Brisbane just isnt the same thing). My girlfriend is a freshly minted Geelong supporter so, fingers crossed, they'll be playing when we arrive.

Don't forget to take a camera and fire off enough shots to post on the message board. You forgot rakishly handsome LOL. Now, if you just think of the inverse to that description you'll probably have a better picture LOL. Dark hair, fair complexion (we're very, very sun smart up here) about 6ft and, at the moment, carrying a few extra pounds and a slight limp courtesy of a nasty bout of Plantar Fasciitus (haven't been able to do any running for the past 7 months). Girlfriend, not in attendance unfortunately (saving her first visit for winter).

Other than that, you were spot on LOL

I've never caught the tram there and don't think I will this year. Even with the Plantar Fasciitus Im still looking forward to a nice stroll through the gardens and across the bridge. Ground pass only for me (I am still a studying) but that still means more than enough entertainment, especially in the first week.

Ha, ha, the number 70 from Wattle Park: I know it well. Cuts through a few of my old stomping grounds in Hawthorn. Nice, direct run to the front of the Tennis Centre. Best form of public transport we've got.

Yep, rover, centre and occassional stints in the back and forward pocket although, in an odd twist for someone not in the 6`4 range I used to also play at centre-half-forward and centre-half-back (in another lifetime I was the country regions all-schools high jump and long jump champion although now I dont jump further than the tv to the sofa LOL).

I've got many fond memories of Hawthorn and Kew although any trip back definately invokes a few too many ghosts of girlfriends past LOL. Richmond's just a bit cramped for me but Ive got friends in Elwood - lovely part of the world- so hope I'll be able to crash there for the week.

Yep, I watch it. Good to see Ponting make two consecutive 100s in his 100th game :D

Yea that was disappinting for Haydo, played a good innings... should have ended with a 100.

Ponting played superb though, playing agressive. He was practically making a run a ball, which is rare in test cricket. Great to watch.

This is off topic and I hope I don't offend anyone by asking. I have always liked Australian girls and pornography. I'm having trouble finding good Australian porn. I did a Google search but did not find anything I liked. Can you guys recommend some good sites for Australian porn?
WTF!!!!!!!!!

Hmm bayswater, that's near ringwood, little way from lillydale. Basically outer suburbs. I guess that place is no worst than werribee.

You could always move to frankston!? ;)
