View Full Version : Suggestions for making this new board better

I realize that they are probably not going back to the old boards, although I wish they would, so here are my suggestions to please implement as soon as possible.
I mean this thread as as something useful that can make this board more tolerable and better overall, because I really want to keep using these boards...
My main suggestions:
1. Get rid of the ugly gray background. Its about as uplifting as getting drunk and listening to Tracy Chapman alone in a cemetary.
2. Find a way to minimize all of the 50,000 binking icons, just make a tool bar or something so that the words seem important again.
3. PLEASE separate posts more, right now one post blends into another with just a different shade of gray. THAT IS AWFUL. It makes one post just seem like another post. In the old boards there was a separation between posts that worked nicely, so please improve the orders between posts.
4. Please make the words bolder and a little bigger. Like Deuce, my eyes work fine, but they are being tortured unneccessarily by this site.

This will never happen!! Don't you see - forever more words are meaningless. I mean just look below:

I hate the new message board. Please let us go back to titanic.
Some things are nice with this new board.
But the FONT SIZEneeds to be bigger!

That's what my eyes are starting to look like from reading this board.

Thanks for making those changes. The white background seems to be working out great for everyone.

Actually, someone suggested a while back that we have a choice of 4 'skins' - each one representing one of the 4 tournaments that make up the Grand Slam.
That would be (I suppose)... a dark green theme (for the Aussie Open); a rust colored theme (for Roland Garros); a lighter green (for Wimbledon); and a blue (for the U.S. Open).
This would at least add some choice and variety where there is now none.
Someone from TW I believe replied that it was a decent idea, and likely do-able, and that it would be considered.
That was the last I heard of it, unfortunately.

Err, I find the text on this site to be as big, or in fact bigger, than most net-text I read, or indeed, the size of text I choose when working in applications.
I'd therefore suggest, for you, changing the size of the text at the browser level.... in firefox at least, it's just in the View menu, and also easily accessible via a shortcut key. I'd imagine similar in IE.

To change the whole page's text size:
Hold down control, and use your scroll wheel.
Themes/color schemes, i actually like them, but i'd be curious to see others. I think this scheme is default for a lot of VBB boards...
You can turn off avatars/sigs in your user CPs, and maybe there is a text-only mode, not sure about that one.

I say we immediately BAN crazy posters.

Personally -- and this is something I thought about other places -- you shouldn't be able to post threads unless you've made X enough posts. It may be only 5-10 posts, so a very small number, but at least it forces new people to look around.
Also, certain threads should be made stickies, so anybody wanting to beat dead horses can continue to beat.
Federer vs. Nadal
Federer vs. Sampras
Graf vs. Seles

That would definitely add variety.

That is a great suggestion, and may I add that those posters that carry additional duties should not be overlooked in any such banning exercise.

why are we restoring such an OLD post?

why are we restoring such an OLD post?
Why should we address posts based on their recency rather than their merit and relevance to the interests of the participants of the forum?
