Hi, I want to reduce racket head weight by completely removing grommets and head guard. Drastic idea I know, apart from added dangers when grounding racket while playing, can any one tell me what other general adverse effects doing this to a racket would have to string wear, frame, feel of racket, etc? In short is it a bad idea?

If you removed the grommets, then you would need to use leather power pads to stop the strings from scraping themselves to death, so the weight change would be minimal.

I think you should reconsider this idea, is it really worth it? Lift some weights and believe me when I say that a racket must be heavy if you should be able to put back the really heavy balls from you opponent.
