Richie Rich
01-05-2006, 05:49 PM
just got hame and heard the score. was it as dominating as the score indicated? all i saw on tsn was the russians alll bawling on their bench.

Mr.Federer
01-05-2006, 05:57 PM
Yeah, it was pretty dominating...although Justin Pogge was amazing...but canada got a bit lucky where the russians scored a goal but nobody realised and play went on...it was "controversial" you might say...because at that time Canada was only up 2-0...anyways BRAVO TEAM CANADA!

PM,

Why can't hockey get a major network to televise games? Why did they strike for an entire season? Why do re-runs of 'Seinfeld' get better tv ratings than the Stanley Cup Finals? I'll tell you why the USA is home to most of the teams: We have more money than we know what to do with. Hockey is about 27th on the popularity list in the US behind marbles and field hockey. Even professional darts gets airtime here. With the exception of a few cities (Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Denver), people could care less. Pro hockey games are an excuse for businessmen to rent out a corporate box and entertain clients. And by the way, nice job Canadian fans. Booing a bunch of American kids is so high class. This is only the second or third time this has happened in Canada in the last few years.

do you know why they were booing the US? see the US/Canada game and the cheap shot elbow the US player (Jackson) gave the Canadian player at the end of their game? cheap shotting a player when the game is out of reach is "high class" so you get back "high class" booing in return.

i doubt it's jealousy, especially about hockey.
ignorance? not that one either - seems the US has cornered the market on that one.
Canada the 51st state? maybe the 52nd, after Mexico.
warmer down here? probably the most realistic of the above reasons.

could it have anything to do with the US team running their mouths off before the tournament and throwing cheap shots at the end of the Canada game? There is always a reason for being treated a certain way. maybe the US team should look in the mirror and ask "why?"

Kevin T, for all his publishing acomplishments and expensive education, still hasn't provided his reason as to why the Canadian fans booed the US team. skirted around the issue perhaps but hasn't disclosed the reason.

Funny about meeting Cdns working in the US. My company has many people from the US working up here and say they prefer Canada. Don't try and make a blanket statement - each person is individual and makes their own decisions.

BTW, I'd rather watch curling than watch the teeth counting festival (very short festival I might add), or the my father is my brother show in SC.

But Kevin T, obviously you're one of the few Americans who DO CARE ABOUT HOCKEY otherwise you wouldn't have posted here.
I am American born and raised. When I was in senior high, I moved to Vancouver, Canada so I have duel status. See, when I was studying in Washington State, they didn't teach you a thing about our great neighbors to the north. That's some class, not. What kind of country hardly teaches you a thing about a bordering nation? It shows just how arrogant and patriotic America really is. There's just too many of you who JUST DON'T GET IT.
So don't tell us how ignorant Canadians are about the states. At least they teach American history in our schools.

I'm not jealous. I have mountains AND the ocean. If I want to snowboard, I'll just cruise up to Big Bear or Mammoth. And the word is "dual" not "duel" citizenship. A duel is walking 20 paces, turning and firing.

Richie,

I gave you my reasons. I wanted to hear an opinion from a Canadian and you gave yours. As far as your cracks on SC, have you ever been to SC? SC doesn't have towns named Moose Jaw or White Horse or Yellow Knife. You guys don't want to get into that argument. Hmm...let's see...Charleston vs. Edmonton?....Hilton Head vs. Calgary?...Isle of Palms or Ottawa?...playing tennis and golf in shorts in mid January or ice fishing?...looking at beautiful, tan women or moose?...NFL vs. CFL?...broomball vs. baseball?...etc., etc., etc....

iIn terms of your questions, I'm sure there are enough answers that would go both ways on both sides of the border so that they only end up representing your point of view. you make it sound like everyone would pick your point of view. for an academic you don't seem very smart and are pretty ignorant - then again what do I know? according to you i'm an ice fishing, igloo living, cfl watching, classless cdn hockey fan.

1. Names of towns are a very superficial way of judging a country. Also, it's nice how out of the thousands of cities in Canada, you picked the most remote ones.
2. Comparing citys is a very subjective affair. There are many joys that come with winter that you may not appreciate, but many others do.
3. Learn some facts, there are indoor tennis facilities here and many other recreational options other than ice fishing.
4. Again, referring to superficial qualities of a country. Do you take pride that your country makes more porn too?
5. Again more subjective comparisons, not really worth ruining your myopic point of view.

If you're going to reply, try it without insults.

PM,

I'm glad you get the JEST in my posts. SC and So Cal are warm enough to tan most of the year. If not, the ladies can always go to the electric beach!!
And just like my assumptions of Canadians, your assumptions of South Carolinians are also incorrect. It's all in good fun. My best friend in Charleston was from Toronto and worked in research, like myself. We used to give each other junk all day long. If you can't make fun of each other, what's it all for anyway?

Richie,

What part of SC did you visit? Please don't say Myrtle Beach (or "The Redneck Riviera", as it's known in the States)!! When we used to hit Myrtle Beach during high school and college, I swear there were just as many Canadians as Americans and for some odd reason, tons of people from Ohio. Good times. I have actually been to Canada numerous times. Went to the Falls, Hamilton and Toronto on a bet when I turned 19 and enjoyed many, many Molson Genuine Drafts. Why is the drinking age 19? Visited Toronto again a few years later with my Canadian buddy. Went to Montreal with a girl from Maine that I dated in college. Went to Vancouver (which I absolutely love!) two years ago.

Again, guys, it's all in good fun. Anybody that's conversed with me on this forum over the last 5 years recognizes my sarcasm. So, it's aboot time we all made ammends. Take care.

Hamilton - the highlight of any visit to Canada :) hope you didn't spend too much time there - the fumes can be hazardous to your health (no offence to any steeltowners here but admit it - Hamilton is pretty much a dump)

drinking age is better in Quebec - only 18. right of passage to go to Montreal when turn 18 to drink self silly on Rue St Catherine watching the "shows" 24/7.
